The Osprey Walmart is one of the nicer ones to shop at, it's one I usually shop at, sometimes I'll go to the one on Cattleman, since I'm about midway between the two, but I do prefer the Osprey one. Having said that, there is a homeless camp behind one the churches in Osprey, I see them more so because I happen to be a user of mass transit. I think only once, have I been asked for monetary help. I never hear of them to be a big problem in the area and usually if an issue comes about, it's quickly identified and nipped in the bud. overall it's seems like a very nice area.
Seems the authorities stay on top of things and try to avert any serious crime, see the following report.

West of 41 in Osprey is lovely, but a relatively small geographic area. The Wal-Mart everyone is raving about is nice because it serves customers in upscale areas such as Nokomis and Casey Key, Palmer Ranch, and The Oaks Club.
