Several big events going on this weekend, including tonight's Friday Fest at the Van Wezel in Sarasota. This is the season finale of the free music concerts. It starts at 5 pm, bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Live from Downtown It's Friday Night -- live performances & entertainment, 6 - 9 pm, Rosemary District of downtown Sarasota.

Free Music Night -- Venice Centennial Park, starts at 7 pm. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Suncoast Spear Fishing Challenge -- hosted by Marina Jacks, benefits local charities. For information go to Suncoast Spearfishing Challenge - Florida Spearfishing Tournament

Motorworks Brewing's Octoberfest -- Friday 3 pm to close, Sat & Sun 11 am to close, Lederhosen contests, German foods/ food trucks. 1014 9th St W, Bradenton.


Saturday

International Beer Festival at Lakewood Ranch -- very popular annual event at the LWR Polo Club grounds. 100+ craft beers, food, live music, Big Top Beer Carnival. Tickets $10 - $65. Beer samples 3 - 7 pm.

6th Annual Sarasota 5000 Regatta -- junior class rowers from all over the state of FL compete at Little Sarasota Bay, Blackburn Point Park. 8 am - noon.

Run/Walk for Life -- Sutton Park in Palmetto, 5K run/walk to take place on the Green Bridge, starts at 8 am. To raise awareness regarding depression and suicide prevention. Fees to participate: $25/adults, $10/students. www.ManateeGlens.org

International Public Lands Day Celebration -- Oscar Scherer State Park, Osprey. Live music, tram tours, demonstrations, volunteer work service projects. Free lunch for registered volunteers. Park fees waived 9 am to sunset. Volunteers will help pick up trash, pull weeds, etc. For info call 483-5956.

Sam Woolf concert at IMG Academy in Bradenton -- 7 pm. Sam was a finalist on American Idol. Tickets $16.50 - $33. Call 888-345-5742 or go to Sports Academy: Athletic & Sports Performance Training | IMG Academy

Sarasota Farmers Market -- 7 am - 12 noon, on Lemon in downtown Sarasota.

Ellenton Farmers Market -- 8 am - 12 noon, 6750 US 301 in Ellenton.

AMI Bird Nerd Guided Tour -- new bird watching & nature tour service, 2351 Gulf of Mexico Drive on Anna Maria Island, 8:45 am, free but reservations required. Reserve spot at amibirdnerd.com

Lend me a Tenor -- popular play at The Players Theatre in Sarasota, starts 7:30 pm, call 365-2494 for reservations. Tickets $25 - $30.

Classic Car Show -- Hooters, Bradenton on 14th St W (US41). 5 - 9 pm.

Classic Car Show -- Beneva Village parking lot, shopping center on SW corner of Beneva & Clark, 5 - 8 pm.


Saturday & Sunday

Mixon Fruits Craft Show -- locally crafted items & antiques, 9 am - 3 pm. 2525 27th St E in Bradenton.


Sunday

Siesta Farmers Market -- 9 am to 2 pm, parking lot of Davidsons Drugs.

Siesta Key Drum Circle -- starts just before sunset on Siesta Key beach.



October is just around the corner. Although we here in Sarasota do not get to experience the changing colors of leaves and harvesting of crops, we do have a variety of Octoberfests, fall festivals, pumpkin patches and Halloween themed events coming up.

It was just announced that Friday Fest is moving indoors at the Van Wezel due to the weather for those planning to attend.
