Does anyone know what these crazy bird swarms are all about? I took this pic at my house last month and figured it was a one time migration thing.

But every few days I see them again (maybe a smaller set though.) It's really a neat site to see (despite the mess it makes on our cars!) They sort of fly around in crazy patterns over and over again. They make quite a racket too. I'd love to know what kind of birds these might be and what exactly they're doing.

I have to admit, when I saw the post topic, I thought "Uh, you live in Florida and are annoyed by flocks of birds?!"

Then I saw your picture.

I can imagine feeling like Tippi Hedren with all that going on. It looks pretty odd to me, so I am curious about it myself now.

LOL. Are you kidding? The birds out here just fascinate me. Those huge cranes and the black ones by the water that always seem to be airing out their wings. I've had gorgeous red cardinals at my bird feeder. But I can't seem to find anything online specific to these sightings. I'm sure it's some sort of migration, but I thought migrations were more short lived. This has been going on for maybe a month now or longer!

I'm inclined to say they are whipporwills, but I have never seen that many of them at one time! That's amazing!

Tree Swallows.

Fantastic photo! It's great to see big flocks of swallows this year. Some researchers even came down to take a good look at them. We will have to enjoy them while we can, soon they will be all north.

I hope this means they're on their way back up to Wisconsin. I miss birds.

That's it! Thank you! I found some you tube videos on them and it's exactly what I've been seeing. It is a really cool spectacle to watch.

I literally spent a half hour watching them one evening...mezmerized. How they manage to fly so fast, catch bugs in flight, and not bump into each other is amazing.
