There are several Bayshores in Bradenton -- Bayshore Gardens, Bayshore on the Lake, Bayshore Condos.

Bayshore Gardens is an older complex, built in the 60's - 70's. While they try to keep the buildings maintained, the age does show. Most of the units that come up for sale are very dated. The kitchens are on the small side, as are the bathrooms. Some of the oldest units have window units for AC. Some sections allow pets, others do not. And buyers have to go through an in person interview for buyer approval. You have to own for at least one year before you can rent out your unit. Still, if you are looking for a cheap winter place, they are definitely an option.

Bayshore Condos is similar to Bayshore Gardens, it is also an older complex built around 1970. The fronts of the 3 story buildings look sort of like a more modest motel.

The one on Heron Way is in Bayshore on the Lake. They do have rental restrictions in that you cannot rent out your unit the first 2 years of ownership. Not all of the buildings in this complex are 55+, so if you are looking strictly for a 55+ community this might not work for you. Also, some of the buildings allow pets, others don't, so you have to check carefully. This community does have a nicer community pool and there is a clubhouse, plus a little fishing pier for the lake. Monthly fees run around $160 for the 1 bdrm units, around $210 for the 2 bdrm units. I don't think the monthly fees include water/sewer but would have to check.

Default under 55?

Hi..I've been told by a realtor in Bradenton that I won't have a problem buying in a 55+ community as long as I'm not a permanent resident. I plan to use it just for a few vacations a year until I retire. I'm now almost 53. Does anyone know about this? I really feel that there are not good options for under 55 and it is not fair.
Thanks
