My husband and I would like a vacation rental for January thru March, 2016 in the Bradenton, Fl or Sarasota area. We are homeowners in Ohio and both retired and active. It must have cable T.V. and some source of heat. As far south as Englewood is acceptable. We have been looking on internet, but they are way too expensive...we are on a fixed income and I have experience in painting (interior) and could trade part of rent for painting....We are a neat, clean, and quiet couple....

Everything in the area is "expensive" and mostly booked in advance during that time of year, sorry. That is high season and everyone and their brother wants to be here.

Things are booking fast. Our vacation home in North Port is booked up for 2015-2016 (5 months of Snowbird Season) and we have had inquiries for 2016-2017 already if you can believe that! We plan to be living full time in North Port by then though.

That area during that time is high demand and nothing is cheap.
Go south a bit more to Cape Coral, all though still not cheap during that time, it may be less expensive than the Sarasota area.

That's high season. Have you checked VRBO, Flipkey and Homeaway?

they are only expensive if people are not willing to pay the price.
If your budget doesn't allow for them, then you have to revise your needs. It's what we all do all the time, including yourselves, I'm sure.

The most inexpensive seasonal rental I can think of would be a mobile home in a 55+ community. Try Bradenton or Ellenton, which are north of Sarasota but south of Tampa Bay.

There's also a web site called snowbirdhelper.com that lists mobile home rentals in FL, you might try it.
