I think it's safe to say the view depends on who is looking! In SRQ you have homeless who die 20-30 years before they should - walking down the street next to dressed up folks who live beachfront and are heading to the Opera.

Although this it true elsewhere to some degree, most other places do have more of a sense of place and of history and community. Florida is the great melting pot and you will find the worst and best of humanity....and everything in between.

I definitely agree that the SRQ area as well as other places in the Tampa Bay region can be much kinder and gentler than the S. East Coast. I don't think I could live there (Miami-Dade) or even visit long term.

People actually live at the airport?!? No wonder they die early. All of those fumes and everything.

Yeah, they're artificially down because they don't count the people who have just given up looking.

Unemployment is low but a lot of Americans work in dead end jobs and hourly wage jobs that are jobs at will and can fire you for any reason. Very few people are truly wealthy they are about 3-5 percent of the population controls 90 percent of the wealth in this country.. same as almost every country in the world, we are losing our middle class.

Yes - there of plenty of crappy jobs that pay less than welfare - the country is doing GREAT - Does anyone really believe the government controlled media when they say unemployment is down? Look around you and see the truth.
