I think the speculation is that it was attacked by a raccoon or a fox.

What I was thinking -- goats can be pretty fearless and sounds like it was left outside at night to roam a pasture.

It was my goat. One of my goats (that is still alive and showing no symptoms) was attacked early in the morning on March 3rd. The goat confirmed with rabies showed no wounds or injuries but started acting aggressive Friday March 20th. It is a shocking confirmation and everyone in the neighborhood must assume that my goats are not the only animals this rabid animal has come in contact with. One of my neighbors stated that about 2 weeks ago he saw a raccoon running through his property during the day. Chances are the animal that bite this goat is dead. The rabid goat may have been bitten by another animal than the one attacking the goat still alive.
