We are interested in buying a home in Sarasota in the next week...(in the final sale stages of a home in S. FLA)...
I noticed that you must be a resident already to apply to Pineview for this Sept... (by the May deadline.) Does anyone know if wiggle room is allowed with submitting proof of residencey i.e. a water bill, an electric bill...We probably won't actually occupy our new home realistically to June or July.... We need to find one first in in Palmer Ranch! So many timing considerations

Proof of residency is required, they will not consider students without it. It is my understanding that the deadline is May for submission of all documents but the deadline to request gifted student screening for admission was back in January.

No wiggle room at all. The January date is only for the state to test your kid. You can get a private test done after that.

My son is already in a gifted program here with a state EP for full time gifted... We've already completed all of the testing....

IT IS the residency portion that is of concern... If we do not move until over the summer to "create the water bill or electric bill, we would not be considered residents...even thought I will be buying next week?

As soon as you transfer title, you'll have a water and electric account and will have a bill within 30 days max. You pay a minimum on the water even if you don't use any and you'll have to keep the a/c on to keep the mold out. The only issue would be getting the actual bills before the end of May.

May 1st not the end of May. I'd call the school and ask about in-state transfers with an IEP.

Hi Linda,

I had two kids attend Pine View. They are very strict on their deadlines. If you already have approved testing then the deadline is extended. You should call the school board and ask specific questions. I believe Liz Elliott at the Board is still the gifted liaison. You should call and speak with her.

Good luck!
