One of the main reasons we moved to Sarasota was to grow tropical fruit trees. We are now able to walk through our backyard and pick ripe, delicious fruit.

This Sunday, May 17th from 10am-4pm, Manatee Rare Fruit Council will hold their annual fruit tree sale at the Bradenton Area Convention Center. There will be many vendors bringing a great variety of fruit trees. The convention center is free to get in and air-conditioned. Big Earth plans to bring wagons for people to use during the sale. Come and pick up mango, lychee, sapodilla, peach, citrus, banana, miracle fruit, ice cream bean, apple, blueberry, persimmon, white sapote, grapes, pomegranate and more.

Something fun and free to do indoors this Sunday.

Is this a sale just to get rid of plants and make some $$$ ? or will the vendors help/suggest plants that will or won't work in your particular growing zone? Florida Interactive USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map. I am in the NW part of North Port and we have several good freezes in Jan/Feb.

Thanks.

If you live in one of the newer subdivisions I would suggest checking your deed restrictions before purchasing fruit trees as some don't allow the planting of fruit trees in yards, the dropped fruit can attract fruit rats.
