The closest dog beach and park is Brohard Paw Park in Venice.
Here is the link - City of Venice

I'm more looking for a less then conventional park more like a rest area. That you can have salt water access. For swimming. And have my dog on a leash!

Dogs are only allowed at the dog park beach. What you're looking for does not exist here.

You may want to try Ken Thompson park. Dog can be off leash as long as under voice control. Nice area where doggies can go swimming in Sarasota Bay.

Do a image search on Bing to get a visual idea if this will work for you.

Before or after, stop at Salty Dog at the entrance to the park for adult beverages and burgers etc on their outdoor deck (dog friendly on outdoor patio) or in St Armands circle for dog friendly dining outdoors at Columbia Restaurant or at Venezia.
