We had no problem selling our houes.Lucky because we bought our Florida home first. We didn't put our Ct home on the market until months later.
Good schools are Gullett(new school) Haile
Just looked at photos from Novemeber, the sky is blue and sunny, like it is all of the time.
I do miss the supermarkets, they only have Publix here, unless you shop at Walmart. Can't figure how only one Supermarket get the whole of Florida.Winn Dixie is going bankrupt.

We close on our house next week! YiKeS! Just think....today it is 36 degrees outside here at home, and we are like......get out the t-shirts and to think in Fl. that would be like.....FrEeZiNg!! Anything you can tell me about schools in Lakewood Ranch being a teacher? Do you hear anything about them? I have heard they are good, and have done some research and they sound good?!?!??!??!?! Visited and they look nice, going for a tour next week....that will be nice but hearing from people in the area is even better! Thanks )
Im really happy for you guys! We too moved from Chicago, 2 years ago. We moved in July too. The hardest thing for me was to get used to the streets out here. There's E and W of the same street numbers. The first year I lived here, I knew my way to work, to Target and home! LOL Yes, the schools near Lakewood Ranch are very good. We currently live in West Bradenton (ICK run far!) which is about 30 minutes away. We've done our research on the area and will be moving out to Parrish eventually. Most of them are A rated. Witt is very good and so is Braden River, Lakewood Ranch HS can have some "sore spots" but with the HS's, the schools are a little more diverse since there are fewer around. Let me know if you need anything else!

Just because you live gated doesn't equal security, Florida or anywhere else...a woman was killed in Panther Ridge a few years back (not sure about gates there...), but murder was committed by someone who was contracted for work at the house...

Gated or ungated, when you have service people coming through to perform work, you never know who's in your neighborhood & who could "snap".

You're right, alot those church killings do happen up north. Once again, a gate is only an obstical that slows down entry to the other side...

A lot of church killings happen up north? I have never heard of one.
I think most people realize the is no certainies in life.A gated communtiy does offer some sort of privacy for the community but I am sure if a crazed person wanted to commit a crime they could.Yet a gate/guard is a deterrant.
Also their car plates are always written down.Yes they could be stolen plates but that would be from someone who really planned a crime.
Most criminals want a fast and easy getaway.
Even the president and high officals who have high secutiry, can be harmed but by having some type of scruity,it does help, than none at all.
I for myself like a gate communtiy.

I understand what you're saying, however, you have no idea how either extremely smart or extremely stupid our FL criminals can be. It'll be either a high class criminal that gets you before you know you've been got, or a ghetto thief who gets caught before he leaves the scene....there is no middle ground in this state...

Gates are all good & great but they are like "the club"; just something to detour the criminal for a few minutes until either alarms go off or guards take notice.... we've had recent reports of criminals avoiding the gates of our gated communities & jumping the walls...go figure...the key to everything down here in FLorida is having an awareness about you at all times...most incidents are isolated.

for stupid Bradenton/Sarasota crime news: go to newsmanatee.com, you won't believe what you read.

LadyWAFan,I just took a brief look at it,will read more tonight. It does look awful and I am not trying to downplay it but I think in every city if you focused on crime,I think a lot of horror stories could be told.
At quick glance it seems like a rag mag.I think if we all knew about the extent of crime and wrongdoings near us,we would all be running for the hills.
The best we can do is to take precaution, live in an area we think we are somewhat safe in.(fingers crossed)
I am aware of the world condition odf drugs etc but I can't live being scared and I have to look for the postive in life. There is no doubt the negative can always be found.
