We are trying to leave the thermostat at 76 but we are uncomfortably warm at times, specially for sleeping. We have been told this is too low and that systems can't handle it and it's bad for the house. What temperature is acceptable in the house at this time of year? We live in a cement bungalow, circa 1978 like so many in the area. We have a trane a.c. and a heat pump furnace in the garage.

76 is too low? That's funny. Tell that person to put the crack pipe down.

Mine's 72 and has been for 11 years now. System works fine. When I first moved to Florida I had it set to 68 and left it there and slowly increased it to 72 over a few years as I got acclimated to the warmth.

I keep mine at 77. My windows don't fog, but they are double panes, so I guess that's why.

78 degrees with ceiling fan when we are in the room. Very comfortable.
Your mileage may vary.
