Since there is a Chalk Festival event on Thursday and several events on Friday, I am posting my list of things going on in and around the Bradenton - Sarasota - Venice area this weekend a day early. And there's a lot to post this week, including the following:


Chalk Festival Opening Dance Party -- live music, 5 area restaurants providing dinner choices, beer garden, cash bar. Tickets required for this event, $35/person. Venice Airport Fairgrounds, 7 - 9 pm.

Running thru Nov. 15th -- the Sarasota Chalk Festival, at Venice, both downtown Venice and at the Airport Fairgrounds. 10 am - 9 pm each day.


Live from Downtown Sarasota It's Friday Night -- local performers entertain, this week at Burns Square, 6 - 9 pm.

Friday Night Free Music -- Venice's Centennial Park at the gazebo, starts at 7 pm, bring lawn chairs.

Local Car Show -- downtown Sarasota on Lemon Ave, 5 - 8:30 pm.

Lewis Black performs at the Van Wezel, 8 pm, tickets $40 & up. Black is known for his rants on current events, politics, etc. Sarasota, Florida - Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall


Pinecraft Christmas -- quilts, textiles and other gifts for sale, many made locally by members of the Amish & Mennonite community. Also kettle corn, food trucks. 9 am - 4 pm, 3737 Bahia Vista (near Beneva).


Home & Garden Show + Wellness Eco Fest --- at the Bradenton Area Convention Center in Palmetto, free admission. Fri & Sat 10 am - 6 pm, Sun 10 am - 5 pm.

Gem, Jewelry & Bead Show -- Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, 10 am - 5 pm, $4/adult, ages 12 & under get in free.

ArtsHOP -- large, local arts & craft festival at Holmes Beach & Anna Maria on Anna Maria Island. Starts Friday 5 - 8 pm, Sat 10 am - 5 pm, Sun 10 am - 4 pm. More info at Anna Maria Island artsHOP, November 13, 14, and 15, 2015, Anna Maria Island, Florida


Siesta Key Crystal Classic Master Sand Sculpting Competition -- 20 master sculptors compete for $25k in cash prizes. Food & retail vendors. Siesta Key public beach, 10 am - 5 pm, $6/person to get into the sculpture viewing area, children under age of 4 get in free.


Sarasota Farmers Market -- downtown at Lemon & Main, 7 am - 1 pm.
Bradenton Farmers Market -- downtown historic Bradenton, 9 am - 2 pm.
venice Farmers Market -- downtown Venice, 8 am - noon.

Sandblast -- local sand sculpting contest to support Keep Manatee Beautiful, $300/entry fee per team. Free sand sculpting clinics for the public on THURSDAY & FRIDAY, 5 - 6 pm. Saturday's event runs 8 am - 2 pm. Coquina Beach on south end of Anna Maria Island.

Symphony on the Sand at Coquina Beach -- the Anna Maria Island orchestra & concert choir perform while listeners enjoy complimentary wine, beer and food samplings. Tickets $30 - $100/person. 4:30 - 7:30 pm.

Anna Maria Island Privateers host a Thieves Market (i.e. flea market) at Coquina Beach, 8 am - 3 pm. 100+ vendors (including local produce), BBQ & hamburgers for sale.

Terra Ceia Mullet Smoke Off -- for those who love eating smoked mullet, BBQ available for those who don't. Beer & wine, arts & crafts vendors. 10 am - 6 pm at Seabreeze Park on Terra Ceia Bay, free admission.

Longboat Key celebrates 60 years as a municipality with a get together. Bring your own picnic lunch or purchase food from on site vendors, live jazz music, fireworks at 7:30 pm. Event runs 5 - 8 pm, Bayfront Park on Longboat Key.

Fiesta Italiana at Lakewood Ranch -- great Italian food for sale, plus wine & beer. Children's activities, craft vendors, dog costume show. Greenbrook Adventure Park, 11 am - 4 pm, free admission.

Lakewood Ranch Art Show & Sale -- at the LWR Town Hall, 9 am - 4 pm.

Suncoast Food & Wine Festival -- held at the Lakewood Ranch Polo Club grounds. Unlimited samplings of food by local restaurants, wines & craft beers, live entertainment, silent auction. 1 - 4 pm. $75/person.

Front Porch Tales at Historic Spanish Point -- storytelling, puppet shows, bluegrass music. 9 am - 5 pm. Tickets $12/adult, $10/senior or student, $5 child 5 -12.

Thunder Fun Day -- at the campus of the Out of Door Academy on Siesta Key, 11 am - 3 pm. Food for sale, games, crafts, chili cook-off. Free admission.

Film Under the Starts -- Sarasota Film Festival and Sarasota county parks department hosting free movie presentation of "Surfs Up." Childrens movie about a penguin. Bring picnic & lawn chairs, movie starts at sunset, Siesta Key beach pavilion.

Cirque Dreams: Holidaze. Billed as Broadway musical meets Christmas spectacular. At the Van Wezel, 8 pm, tickets $35 - $65.

Local Car Show -- Bradenton, US41 & Cortez area, at Joey D's Pizza (behind Rooms to Go), 6 - 9 pm.


St. Armand's Circle Fall Art Festival -- large, popular free event, 10 am - 5 pm each day.

Sarasota Medieval Fair continues at the Sarasota county fairgrounds, 10 am - 6 pm. Adults $16.95, students/seniors $14.95, children 5 - 12 $8.95.


Anna Maria Island Bridge Street Market opens for the season, plus Taste of Bridge Street event, 10 am - 3 pm.

Phillippi Estate Park Four-Course Farm-to-Fork Dinner & Art Sale -- starts at 4:30 pm, chef Paul Mattison prepares gourmet menu from locally harvested foods. $100/person. Siesta Key Drum Circle -- each week at the Siesta Key public beach just before sunset, free, public welcome.

Wanted to add one more item for those willing to drive to St. Pete for some really good BBQ and music -- Rib Fest. It's held each year at Vinoy Park in downtown St. Pete. This year's event runs Friday - Sunday, gates open each day at 11 am. Gate prices $20/adult today, $25/adult Sat & Sun. Rock & Roll bands perform each day, including America, 38 Special & Three Dog Night on Saturday. More info at Ribfest
