I know one guy who bought a townhouse up north in a brand-new development. He turned his garage into a "man cave" and would sit there with the door open all day, watching TV, hanging out. There's one good reason for the open-garage rule!

True...but I’d also be concerned about lots of things that could wander out of the garage, too.

So, when this happens, when your bad bad neighbors leave their garage doors open, do you call the HOA and demand they send out a violation citation or do you approach the neighbor and say, "Hey you young whipper snapper, this is not how we do things here in Touchy Pines, keep it shut! This is for your well being!"

Perhaps there should be a sticky thread with all the subdivisions that have HOAs with a breakdown of rules and regs (no garage doors open, no kids, no visible signs of children, etc)

I think the open garage rule is a good one! what's the reason why a car garage needs to be open other than to enter or exit??

Being a renter doesn’t mean not having to follow rules
And being an owner who rents doesn’t give that person the freedom to cast off responsibility

Unless you are buying a house in a neighborhood why do you care
If you are buying a home in a neighborhood the law requires you to have a set of the HOA CCRs
And you can drive around and see how well observed the rules are kept
You can also observe an HOA meeting if open to the public/homeowners
If they don’t allow open meetings to homeowners that is a reason not to buy IMO

Why on earth would a responsible homeowner really want to leave a garage door open in the first place? for WHAT? And garages shouldn't be turned into a warehouse either! it's a GARAGE, made for vehicles! not a workshop, playroom or living area, HELLLLO! it's for your darn CAR.

HOA and Board meetings in Florida have to be open, according to the FL Sunshine Laws.

Down the street from my condo community is a large development of single-family ranchers, probably built in the 70s. Most of the homes are on quiet side streets or cul-de-sacs, but the main thoroughfare going through the development is a busy road, and the houses have no parking except in their two-car-garage driveways. There's literally nowhere to park on the street, there's no shoulder at all. There are no guest parking lots either. Well, some of the houses have cars and trucks parked on the lawns. One of the houses is on a corner lot and there had to be 5 or 6 vehicles on their lawn the other day. I don't know if these are owners or renters, but it's a shame for the people who do maintain their properties and figure out a way NOT to have to park on the lawn. I'm surprised there's no city code that prevents that. It's one of the reasons I'm pro-HOA.
