We are a retired American couple in our 70s, looking to rent a 2-3 BD furnished place anywhere in Sarasota County. Moving back to US from Spain, want to rent before deciding where to buy. Non-smokers, no pets. Budget: $1700/month

You might want to state your budget. Also a good idea to mention if you have any pets, if you are smoker/non-smoker, and if you need the place to be furnished. Those things matter to landlords.

in season I don't think your budget will cut it. Why would you need a 3 bedroom if you both are retired. I would guess if you have lived in those locations you'd be accustomed to more sparse accommodations.

Do you think 4,500 sq ft is a sparse accommodation? Or a 2-bd apt of 1475 sq ft sparse?
Yes, we have had to increase our budget to $2200/month and have tentatively found a "sparse" 2-bd apt for 6 months. That means if my adult children come to visit, where to put them? We've also found a lovely 3-bd for 6 months but at a higher price.
Still looking before signing lease in 2 weeks. Might decide to go for an annual rental and furnish it, thinking about the options.
