Looking to relocate to Sarasota area. Looking for a single family house within 20 minutes of downtown Sarasota and 20 minutes to beach. The closer the better. Possible gated community. Would like house with pool and water/lake view. Could push budget up to $700k. Any recommendations as to neighborhoods to consider would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Palmer Ranch and its many subdivisions should certainly meet your requirements

Palmer Ranch is good. There are also some nice, smaller gated communities east of Siesta Key, along Clark/Proctor Roads. Depending on whether you value the beach or the city more, you could also head a bit further south along 41, closer to Nokomis Beach as opposed to Siesta Key.

If you are looking for non-gated you can shop the areas to the south of fruitville and east of Tuttle - these are Alta Vista, Paver Park, Arlington Park, etc.
12 minutes from beach and 5 minutes from downtown.

Some new houses being built on tear-down lots - from $400K to $550 for deluxe.
No lake views tho.
Keep in mind that "lakes" in this area are most retention ponds/drained swamps. They are not like real lakes!

Southgate area has some nice houses also.
