The holidays are upon us and Sarasota - Bradenton - Venice hosts a variety of holiday events over the next few weeks, including the following happening this weekend:


FRIDAY

Friday Night Free Music -- Venice's Centennial Park at the gazebo, bring lawn chairs, 7 - 9 pm.

Opening night of the Holly Days & Mangrove Lights Celebration at Historic Spanish Point, Osprey. This will run each Saturday & Sunday 5 - 8 pm in December. Regular admission rates.

FRIDAY - SUNDAY

Sahib Shrine's Feztival of Trees -- dozens of decorated Christmas trees on display that are raffled off, pictures with Santa, kids workshop, craft fair. 600 N. Beneva in Sarasota. $2/adult, ages 12 & under get in free. Fri & Sat 10 am - 7 pm, Sun 10 am - 3 pm.



SATURDAY


Sarasota Farmers Market -- downtown at Lemon & Main, 7 am - 1 pm.

Central Sarasota Farmers Market -- corner Proctor & Beneva, 8 am - 1 pm.

Bradenton Farmers Market -- downtown historic Bradenton, 9 am - 2 pm.


Venice's Fall Family Fishing Tournament -- register at Papa's Bait Shop in the Pier before 8 am, tournament 8 am - 11 am. Age groups: 5-9, 10-12 & 13-16. Free but donations accepted.

Cigar Box Guitar Festival -- performer Justin Johnson, how to clinics on making and playing cigar box guitars. 525 Kumquat Ct, Sarasota, 420/person at the door, 3 - 10 pm.

Light Up Siesta Key Village Parade & Holiday Open House -- huge event. Tree lighting ceremony, Santa arrives on a firetruck, live music, kids events. 6 - 9 pm. There will be a shuttle bus from the beach parking lot to the village.

Anna Maria Island Tree Lighting Ceremony -- on Bridge Street, 6 - 10 pm. Tree lighting followed by free showing of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Bring blankets or chairs, popcorn provided.

Venice Holiday Parade -- this is one of the largest holiday parades on the west coast of Florida. Over 3000 participants, including floats, marching bands. Pre-parade entertainment starts at 5:30 pm, parade starts at 7 pm on Park Blvd, moves to W. Venice Ave. Plan to go early as parking becomes a real problem (they anticipate over 40,000 people will attend).

Daniel Tosh of Comedy Central TV performs at the Van Wezel -- 7 and 9:30 pm shows.

SUNDAY

Bridge Street Market --great farmers market option on Anna Maria Island, 10 am - 3 pm.

Siesta Key Farmers Market -- Siesta Village Plaza, 8 am - 2 pm.

Siesta Key Drum Circle -- just before sunset at Siesta Key public beach, everyone welcome.

Sarasota's Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team performs their water ski show at 2 pm. Behind Mote Marine at 1602 Ken Thompson Pkwy.

Melissa Etheridge performs at the Van Wezel at 7 pm.

When do you think season will hit this year? Been slow in my opinion....

If we don't get a couple of major winter storms up north before Christmas to give incentive to leave early, most of the snowbirds will flock down in January.
