Very interesting! This comes from this Trulia study, which seems to have some interesting assumptions. They say Republicans will be more motivated to buy after the election, and they say Millennials are discouraged so won't buy as much. Therefore they are giving older Republican cities a boost. Not sure if that's an accurate assumption, but they're more knowledgeable than I.

Here's the full Housing in 2017 - Trulia Top 10, with 5 Florida cities making the list.
1. Jacksonville, FL
2. Cape Coral – Fort Myers, FL
3. Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach, FL
4. Grand Rapids, MI
5. Tampa-St. Petersburg, FL
6. Colorado Springs, CO
7. Charleston, SC
8. San Antonio, TX
9. Phoenix, AZ
10. North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton, FL

That sure sounds like a strange assumption being as less and less Americans ID with either party - and ID with Republican is about 25%.

These types of decisions are likely made with or without the election. For example, we looked at NC a decade or two ago and decided it was not our cup of tea. Some of those reasons may be have been the (lack of) ethic culture (no good bread, etc.).....but it wasn't because of an election, etc.

Florida is, if anything, turning purple and blue. It was only by hook and crook that Rick Scott won with less than 50% and same with Trump. This area - if you take the entire area into account - is very middle of the road (purple...).

"Hot" markets by definition have real estate to sell and prices which might tempt people. The Bay Area and NYC are incredibly "Hot" but not using those terms. A shack in Oakland, CA will cost you $600K.

There has been movement toward the "sunbelt" ever since A/C was invented. Now - with a lot of jobs being online - it's even easier to live in various places.

OK, looking at that survey it is based on polling they did a week after the election. IMHO, that means nothing. That is the time period when people are threatening to move to Canada, kill themselves, etc.....(pulling their hair out one way or another).

Tampa, BTW, is filling up with younger people. They envision it to be a "cheap California". Of course, once they get a taste of the summers that notion is dismissed...still, for many it beats freezing up north 6 mo. of the year.

"Hot" is usually a bad thing. It means prices will be sky high because of GREEDY investors who scoop up all the properties and jack up all the prices. Just like the old Monopoly game.

These cities listed are just because baby boomers are buyimg houses there, espcially in Florida. So I want to leave. Boomers are driving the housing costs up too high for me to afford. Soooo What cities in this country are best for Millennials on a budget?

These are probably just citiies where there is a LOT of OVER-builiding. By saying the city is trendy, more people (look shiny thing! The media told us to buy a house THERE!!!!) will be apt to consider those places to live and fill in all those new, empty developments.

It's a marketing tool.

Thus far, anything they build in Florida is locked down and loaded - before the house is even built it's sold. I see no reason why it would slow down any time soon in Florida. I am one of the few people who just does not enjoy living in Florida, but the place is paradise for weather and most people love living here.

One deal breaker I can think of is over population. But there are so many new transplants who do not know the difference between new Florida and old Florida which was much slower and less congested, with less of the new out-of-place transplants.

I think Florida used to be a place that took a while for people to adapt to. They would move here and say wow this place is wild. It used to be a drastic change compared to up north. Now people move here from up north like it's like, no biggie.
