We just moved here in August 2016 and my husband needed major shoulder surgery. I have to say I was very impressed with the doctors, nurses and staff at SMH. Coming from Connecticut where the hospitals are rated so well we were a little skeptical but we were surprisingly thrilled. My father is on the East Coast and wasn't sure about moving closer because of the medical for my step-mom who has many major medical problems but now he knows about SMH he is selling his house and moving this Spring.

Thanks! Good to hear you had positive experiences at SMH! Many (but not all) hospitals in the north are very highly rated, and moving to a different part of the country is challenging on many levels, including finding good docs willing to take new medicare patients, and finding good hospitals. When big medical events happen unexpectedly, we don't have the luxury of "shopping" for a good hospital.
Glad to hear your father and mother will be making the move as well!

Thanks! I think a lot of us who are considering a move to any location have the same list of questions...
It sounds like Sarasota has a good hospital and good docs who take new patients, though that might require some searching upon arrival.
