I'm looking to move to the area and would like to join a country club for using a fitness room and tennis. I'm 54 years old, single with no children. I'd like to find a club that has members that are are closer to my age and also be able to meet other singles or just make new friends. I'm interested in Lakewood Ranch Country Club, River Wilderness and Rosedale. Does anyone belong to any of these clubs that could share their demographics? Also what do you like most about your club? Do you have other suggestions? I do plan on visiting all these clubs soon. Thank you in advance for your input.

We live in the Palm Aire neighborhood. The Palm Aire Country Club is up the road from us. We are not golfers but enjoy paying to use their fitness area, tennis and pool. We also enjoy their various restaurants. We pay for a 'summer membership' which is inexpensive and allows us the use of all of the above.
As far as age, many look to be retired but there are many families with children. We see golfers of all age groups. I never paid attention but I would say its mixed ages.
People who use the Country Club appear to be in good physical shape and active.
I can't speak of Lakewood Ranch.

Another possibility to consider is moving to a community that includes tennis, fitness, and other activities. One example, the Isles of Palmer Ranch. Four har-tru courts for about 600 residents (much better ratio than the nearby village walk). Nice fitness room. Close to the legacy trail for cycling.

With the fees or mandatories in most of these CC's it ain't worth it. Join a gym. Most of the CC's activities, food, service, etc is damn sure not a premium. Many clubs around here are losing so much money, they cut deals with the public. Some of the very very high-end CC's *might* be appealing to you, but the ROI seems quite low. These are the ones that feed weak egos, and continue to rip you off. Have fun.

No CC's in my Palm Aire neighborhood. Our HOA is only $85.00 a year.
The Club is open to anyone who wants to join. We like the summer membership because it is so inexpensive.
