Similar position here but in our 40's. My wife loves the LWR area and hopefully that will be an OK location for my work. Heading back down over the 4th of July. Will be renting on AMI but will spend a few days checking out the different areas.

We live in Sarasota/Bradenton area and are looking to move to MN. Or move out of here asap!!!
My experience with SW FL is very few professionals, lots and lots of old retired people, very few active people(unless you consider boating and fishing active). So hot and humid 10 months out of the year, I rarely see people outside. Schools... well they are southern schools.......
When we visit MN we feel like we are in a different world. Parks everywhere for the kids, active people running and biking at all times of the day, fit people.....

As far as IMG, understand they do not compete in sports with other schools in FL or the florida state championship series,as they are not part of the florida high school activits association.

If you like Florida for some reason, I would look into NE FL, in particular, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee Community

And when we go out to dinner, we feel like we are dinning in a nursing home.
And the weather... On most days when you factor in the dew point and humidity, this area is the hottest in the country( as per why I dont see people outside unless they are boating, fishing, or sitting at the beach).

For a young couple with 2 kids like we have, I would reconsider.

Good luck on your move back! I am getting nervous to leave family, but we will just have to find good friends!
I hear you! Moving that far away from family can certainly be nerve wracking especially with kids. My husband and I are also in our early 30's, but we don't have kids so I think it makes it a little easier. We also already have a few good friends down there, but my mom is like my best friend so it will be tough being away from her again. We're hoping that since both her and my dad are retired now that they'll just move down there too. My mom would move down there with us in a heartbeat, but my dad is a different story so who knows if that'll ever happen. Anyway, good luck to you and your family on your move too! I know we can't wait to get back down there especially since I'm not working anymore and can actually enjoy everything that Florida has to offer! If I can give you a word of advice, I would say to try to get out and explore all that FL has to offer while you're actually living there because you never know if you'll have to relocate again in the future. When we lived there, I never thought in a million years we would ever move back to PA and the one thing I wish I'd done was explore the different areas of FL more while we were actually down there.

HA!
That is so funny. We are SO over MN!!!
We are aware that maybe Florida won't be it and we return to MN or even try elsewhere like the Carolinas, but we can not simply ask "what if" for ever. So now is the time to try I suppose!
MN people are only outside for 3 months. The other 9 are long dark cold days. And you can't leave your front door without seeing/sitting in construction. I tell myself thats just about anywhere though.
We cruise a few times a year and would love to cut that airfare, that costs us more than the cruise usually!
You're right about the parks here - there are a lot, lots of lakes, picnics, biking trails... we don't get many nice days so when we do, we all soak them up and are so grateful!

When I searched this site before moving here I inquired about the peeps living in Sarasota...actually Florida in particular...The best I could get was , "the people are weird here" I wish they just told the truth...which im going to do for you right now...

The area here is beautiful no doubt, beaches are spectacular too....taxes are much lower than the NE as well and no state tax...the downside? A large percentage of people here, whites especially (im white) are plain out NASTY! Think racist, uneducated zimmerman types with no social skills and too many issues to list...packing heat and looking to blast you at the smallest issue...US capital for pedos and chomos.... #1 state for drunk/drugged hit and runs...vast majority of homeless people here are white, and are proud of it as well... wish someone was brave enough to tell me about this before moving down..

Wow. Four posts all identical on four different threads, even a four year old one, all within hours today. i truly hope you've found a new place to live since it's obvious how you feel about people in Florida. Life's too short to be this upset about your community.
