This underground economy has grown here like never before, and illegal activity (not just done by pure criminals) has skyrocketed to say the least.

1. You personally know 4 backpage escorts.
+
2. You also know a woman who is a part-time professional escort (1)
+
3. And you also know another woman who has 2 sugardaddy's. (1)
+
4. You even know another one that goes to Tampa for male clients (1)

4 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 7. You know 7 prostitutes. Your relationship with them is such that they can freely tell you this. Hmmm…..

If that's not enough you know also 2 people involved in the illicit drug trade. And once again your relationship with them is such that they can tell you they do this. Hmmm….

Please tell me you are an undercover officer? The alternative isn't very flattering.

I don't find this difficult to believe at all in the Tampa Bay region at all. Maybe Cecilia knows a lot of prosecutors and LE officers in this area. So what? gee, I know several vice squad officers (male and female) that work for SarasotaPD, BradentonPD, and Lee County. One of the biggest prostitution rings is run by a Ukrainian organization based in North Port in Sarasota County. Do you ever read "Gotcha" magazine? Look at the arrest LOGS of Sarasota, Manatee, and Lee counties? not to mention Hillsborough County?? There are lots of women here that might have regular day jobs and "clean houses", "give massages", and are "dog walkers", and my favorite: "house sitters". You think someone's claim is doubtful about these activities? I don't, based on my own limited knowledge. I'm not naïve or unaware to these realities in the Tampa Bay region, yes, including little ole Sarasota. By the way, I don't think that the suggestion was that all of these women are drugged-up street-walkers. I think the opposite suggestion was made. You know you don't have to be a deputy to know a lot of people doing a lot of things. I know a well-known defense attorney here in Sarasota (criminal defense attorney) whose practice is over 70% of these women in these types of cases. I even personally met one of his female clients/defendants while I was at happy hour at a local LWR establishment, when he was meeting her after work. He has tons of these cases - most are settled out of court with no fanfare.

Also how do you think everything pans out for single men in Sota looking for relationships? It is true a surprising percentage of girls (especially college girls) are sugar babies / prostitution is what it really is. Not that there is anything wrong with that but mathmatically, for single men there are less date nights for them. Less girlfriends for them. Less marriage. Less jobs. Less college degrees. Less scholarships for the men. More grown men living with parents.

A huge percentage of college girls have sugar daddy / prostitution arrangements. So some day your girlfriend may be a little bit worn out from the night before working for her secret daddies! Haha. So sad for the young men out there. "Sorry hun Im on my peroid and too tired right now"

Backpage searches should be continually conducted for all love interests. Also be weary of online dating profiles that are like travel diaries of her in multiple countries from around the world and not many photos of her locally living in Sota. Those are prostitution advertisements.

So you basically agree with me. My last two sentences were: Please tell me you are an undercover officer? The alternative isn't very flattering. Ok, so expand undercover officer to encompass anyone working in or around the criminal justice system. Maybe drug counselors too. Show me someone who knows 7 prostitutes and 2 drug dealers and I'll show you someone who either works in the criminal justice system or a….well, you can probably guess.

Only a fool would deny that Sarasota has escorts, drug dealers, drug addicts, and a whole host of other problems. That can be said of EVERY CITY. The question I would pose is whether or not the problem is worse than average, better than average, or just average. That would be useful information. The mere fact these things exist means little because they exist in every single city.

Nearly every complaint you have about Sarasota can be said of countless other places. Homeless, druggies, escorts, people on minimum wage struggling…..all of that exists elsewhere. What makes a city good or bad is the degree to which those things go on. That's what matters. That's what people care about.

All that said, I think some people here have a great gift for exaggeration. I'm surprised the hospitals in Sarasota have any maternity wards. Perhaps they are filled with retirees because according to your depiction I don't see how any young people can be procreating.

Yeah, I'm a guilty party here. I let myself get suckered into responding to over-the-top nay sayers. Maybe the mods can clean it up. The OP did indeed write a good and helpful post.

It's even worse in the Oakland, CA forum right now. Someone created a thread about donating to Houston with the link and they immediately turned it into a political thread. I wasn't involved in that though
