I have not found much good stone crab to mention in Bradenton/Sarasota. Legend has it Frenchman in Clearwater is THE spot but I can not say for sure

Joes Stone Crab in Miami if you ever get to South Beach

Buy them from a fisherman and eat them at home. A bit more work but better than the 300%+ markup you'll pay at restaurants.

I recommend buying from a good fish monger, get a cracker for the claws. A great dipping sauce is 1/2 Dijon mustard and 1/2 Hellman's Mayo and/or drawn butter is good too or have both or do some homemade cocktail sauce. My personal favorite is the mustard/mayo mix for these guys. Also will need newpaper on a table outside to make for easy cleanup. We have been advised to wait a few weeks into stone crab season before purchasing. Happy eating.

I agree, get direct from the source. Go to Cortez fishing village and buy them there.

Many local supermarkets carry them in their fresh fish section.

I know that Detwiler's has them sometimes and Cut Right seafood in Englewood should have them when they reopen. We've gotten them both places and been very pleased.

I was getting fish at Walt's Fish Market when the counterperson said, "We'll be getting in another load of stone crabs at 5:00 p.m."

The guy must have been early, because I walked out with (4) jumbos that cost me over fifty bucks, but they were outrageous. My guests were impressed with their appetizer.

Have Walt's crack 'em. No extra charge.
