Anyone know a good public part for a large group gathering? Small work outing with families/kids, need a pavilion, assume it will have a playground, grassy area for games. Anything else as far as activity offering is a bonus. Maybe 30-50 people.

Ideally near I75 between Clark exit 205 and University exit 213. Open to other locations for a decent park. Our top option was Rothenbach Park off Bee Ridge, but it's closed at least until December due to storm damage.

Rothenbach Park is not closed due to storm damage. It is closed because it is being used to dump all the storm debris.
A park you might consider is the North Jetty Park. Reservations required if you want the covered tables area with BBQ pits. Separate parking from beach goers. Bonus is short walk to the beach.

Nathan Benderson Park might be interesting. Their website seems to say that they offer private event reservations but it's probably best to call before filling out the online form.

I attended a large family gathering at Turtle Beach years ago. Not sure if they still have all the space. It was great and lots of fun. BBQ's all over, lots of things for the kids to do, swimming, etc. Might check that out.

Maxine Barret Park in Venice is nice, too. I know it's a bit further but it's a good spot!
