i bought a new house in port charlotte and there is a strange chemical smell coming from the master bedroom it, is making us very sick and the builder seems to be dragging his feet on fixing it. i think that whole side of the house might have to be torn down. we've been dealing with this problem for almost a year now.does anybody know of any help i can get to maybe get the builder to take the house back . because we cannot live in that side of the house.,Thanks

You need to contact a real estate attorney, as well as have the house inspected by the health department.

I agree. If the builder is not addressing the problem get a lawyer to make the builder handle the problem. Here is a link to the Charlotte County Health Dept. Charlotte County Health Department - Florida

Default Housing Dept.

- Might also want to call the housing department of your local or state government to see if they have any resources that can help you.

And/or - the consumer affairs department - find out whether there have been other complaints against the builder and whether this has been a chronic problem that the builder has know about but has failed to disclose.

Do you have a septic tank? I would check to see if it's on the same side of the house that you're having the problem on. Perhaps it's leaking.
