Hi Everyone,

Since some of the events get an early start this weekend, I am posting early. Most of the larger restaurants and bars are hosting New Year's Eve events, but I am restricting my posting here to mainly the more public events.

Hope you all have a great weekend, here is my list of fun things I've found that are going on in the Sarasota - Bradenton - Venice area:


Deck the Halls at Ca'd'Zan -- the mansion is decorated for the holidays, 5 - 8 pm, $15/person. Info at:


Holly Days & Mangrove Lights at historic Spanish Point starts tonight, runs every Thursday & Friday evening (until 8 pm) thru the end of December -- Lighted gardens, holiday music.

Sailor Circus Holiday Spectacular -- Often called the "greatest little show on earth," middle and high school students perform incredible circus acts. Show times 2 & 7 pm, 2075 Bahia Vista St, ticket info at:


Selby Gardens Lights in Bloom -- holiday lights, Santa, kids arts & crafts activities. 6 - 9 pm, $25/adult, $7.50 ages 5-12.


Sarasota Farmers Market -- downtown at Lemon & Main, 7 am - 1 pm.

Central Sarasota Farmers Market -- corner Proctor & Beneva, 8 am - 1 pm.

Bradenton Farmers Market -- old Main Street in downtown Bradenton, 8 am - 2 pm.

Touch a Truck -- for children 10 and under, explore 15 large trucks, service vehicles. 11 am - 2 pm, free event. Manatee County Public Library parking lot.


Olde Englewood Village New Year's Eve Lemon Drop Celebration -- Saturday 2 - 10, Sunday 1 pm - 1 am. Carnival rides, midway games, beer garden. Dearborn Street.


Bridge Street Market --great farmers market option on Anna Maria Island, 10 am - 3 pm

Siesta Key Farmers Market -- Siesta Village Plaza, 8 am - 2 pm

Siesta Key Drum Circle -- just before sunset at Siesta Key public beach, everyone welcome.

Ski-A-Rees Ski Show -- 2 pm at 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway (behind Mote Marine).

Polo at the Sarasota Polo Club, Lakewood Ranch -- 1 pm, gates open at 10 am. Adults $10, children under 12 get in free. University Pkwy east to right on Lorraine Rd.

Sarasota Pineapple Drop & New Year's Eve Celebration -- 1 pm - 1:30 am, Main at Lemon. Amusement rides, food concessions, beer concessions, music, family friendly events in the afternoon. Pineapple drops at midnight.

Main Street Live New Year's Eve Celebration -- Old Main Street in downtown Bradenton, 5 pm - midnight. Live music, food vendors, arts & crafts.

WSLR's New Year's Eve Surf Bash -- surfing music of the 60's to bring in the new year. Fogartyville Community Center, 525 Kumquat, 8 pm - 1 am, $15/person.

New Year's Eve at Selby Gardens -- black-tie event with a 4 course dinner, 8 pm - 1 am, dancing. $250/person, reservations required.

New Year's Eve at the Crosley Estate -- formal dinner and an after party/speakeasy soiree with card games, dancing, cash bar. $135/person or $38/person after party only. *7 pm - 1 am, party starts at 9:30 pm. Sarasota's New Year's Eve Party -- live music, gourmet appetizers, open bar, champagne, dancing. Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, 9 pm - 1 am, tickets $140/person in advance, $160 at the door.

New Year's Eve Beach Bash -- at Sharkey's on the Pier, Venice. $10/person cover charge, fireworks at midnight, live entertainment.

Fireworks on Sarasota Bay -- at Marina Jack, midnight.

Starlight & Fire Family New Year's Eve Party -- family friendly event at Historic Spanish Point in Osprey, 6 - 10 pm. Snow, bonfires with marshmallow roasting, hot chocolate, music, kids crafts. $10/adult, $5/child ages 5 - 12.

It's really fun - and we don't drink! Some good bands. Of course we only go after dark, but even if we are not part of the real party we are people watching and listening...

No kids visiting so no reason to head down earlier.
