Is the erosion of Lido Beach due to "sea level rise" that so many posters on here laughed and scoffed at?

Not according to what I've read. Blame it on storm surge from Irma and Alberto. Some of the north and south portions have lost up to 7 feet of sand from the 2 storms. The state of emergency was declared so property owners along the eroded portions of the beach could place sand bags to protect their properties.

Sand dunes are constantly shifting. That is, they are constantly shifting naturally except when they come in contact with jetties, sea walls and other man made structures.

Sarasota has been working on permits to dredge sand from Big Pass to place along Lido beach, which finally got approval from a judge last month. Meanwhile, they already have plans in the works to take a smaller amount of sand from New Pass to start the replenish work along Lido. The city did a similar renourishment project in 2015 but that sand started disappearing a year later after tropical storm Colin.

Here's an interesting story on the continuing process of moving sand from there to here:

And some interesting commentary about the dredging projects:

And I found this article to have a lot of good information:
https://www.sarasotamagazine.com/art.../22/sand-storm

At the very end of that article are a couple of paragraphs that sum things up:
Mora, the Army Corps’ project manager, understands that. “People are building on islands that are meant to move,” he says. “As humans that’s just what we do.”
He also knows that when time claims that new beach, Lido will get another one. And another. And another. When Congress approves a beach-building project, it typically comes with a 50-year guarantee. The Army Corps predicts nine more refills will be needed during that time—and it’s an easy guess where they’ll go to get the sand.

The "sand wars" have been going on for decades and will continue for decades more.....

Good beaches bring in tourists which bring in millions in tax revenues.

The beaches will always be rebuilt.
