Hi, can anybody tell me about issues (odors, hazard) related to the Sewage Treatment Plant in Palmer Ranch? I was looking for homes in Deer Creek, detected on the map the proximity of the sewage plant ... then this link kind of scared me:

could not find anything else ... looks like just some random complaint by somebody or a hoax... oh well, nothing serious.

Update...I (and a neighbor) have been in touch with Sarasota County Water/Air quality division....they came out last friday to "jet" the system out but the smell prevails. My neighbor has told me that in the past when they did this, it worked and the smell went away, but not this time and was told by an employee 2 yrs ago there are "dips" in the pipes causing things to stagnate. Will call him again tomorrow, but will tell you that it is not only our cul de sac...Hubby and I have walked the area and the smell comes up elsewhere in the development. We are VERY concerned as we just purchased this home 3 months ago and DC board has been of NO assistance and poo poo (pardon the pun) our concerns.

Problem is so many are elderly and go directly from the home, thru the closed garage to the car and never spend time in the lanai or putside at all as we younger owners do, so they say they smell nothing............VERY disturbing it is indeed!!!

And to add insult to injury, you're paying $25-$30 a month on your water bill to smell that stink.
If you're ever on I-75 just south of exit 195 Laurel Rd, open your vehicle windows and take a wiff of the air.

Are you sure it would not be from reclaimed water from the lawn irrigation? When we toured Lakewood Ranch, they had the sprinkler systems running with irrigation water....it smelled like sewer.

I don't think so. The spot mentioned on 75 by Laurel Road is right next to a sewage treatment plant.

Sorry you have that smell, I hope they fix it. On a side note, that smell is not present in our 'hood, which is all septic tanks.

I wonder if there are odors present in the areas with the new vaccuum sewers.
