I know this response is long after you asked the question, but here goes: I was at Manasota Beach today. The water is still a little dark, but I did not see any dead fish in the water or on the beach. There was no irritating respiratory issue, and no bad smell. Pretty much, the beach was back to normal except for the water being a little dark. It was really nice because there were very few people on the beach.

China's polluting more than Americans, what are you doing to solve that? Your house if filled with stuff made in China. And a lot of it is made out of plastic...gasp. Why are you killing the planet?

Unless your name is Michael Finkel and you are from Maine, your carbon footprint is much larger than it could be.
Man-made climate change deniers, such as yourself, Donald Trump, and seemingly the preponderance of the Republican Party, especially in Florida, are the crux of the problem.

Champions of pollution that actually seek to shift the blame, and distort scientific conclusions based on empirical data, have no moral grounds for criticizing others.

As is evident throughout our nation, the environmental damage is progressing noticeably and the adverse consequences are impairing the quality of life even in the U.S., and much more greatly in other parts of the world.

Obfuscation such as yours apparently is still popular in Florida, but, having read pointed media stories, many linked in this thread, the likes of which actually have surprised me, I wonder if Floridians and especially Florida's voters won't soon begin to march to a different set of CONSERVATIONIST drummers and abandon the deniers and obfuscators.

Walk the talk...crush the car...buy a bike. Turn off the AC. Stop eating meat. Stop buying Chinese goods. No more plastic.
Until these things become reality, the hypocrisy is deafening. Anybody can talk about it, and those who do the most talking are typically the biggest polluters. Another forum guy that beats the same drum has multiple homes and cars, and drives back and forth from up North to this area burning fossil fuels all the way. Talk is cheap. Lots of Al Gore clones 'round here.

Adopt Michael Finkel's way of life. Look within. Why won't environmentalists actually do anything significant to reduce their own carbon footprint? Telling others to do things they wont do themselves is like splattering disappearing ink upon their own words.

Muddled rot of a man-made climate change denier, continuing to rationalize the destruction of our environment.

See post 223 in this thread.

Attempting to equate those who advocate for environmental preservation with the pollution rationalizers such as yourself, Donald Trump, etc., reminds me of slave-owning Confederates arguing that abolitionists were as immoral as themselves. Disgusting in both cases, except in your case, you're championing the destruction of the global environment, species extinction, and a degraded quality of life from which there may be no redemption.

IfHas anyone been to the beaches this weekend? The Mote beach report shows most beaches unaffected by red tide right now. Is the worst over? Maybe the tropical storm last week helped disperse it.

Red tide is still at 2-15 miles off shore. Also some heavy concentrations at 2-5 miles. Lots of dead fish, smell and dirty red water. The east winds for the past few weeks has pushed this offshore.

Good to know. Hope it continues to get better. Sure seems to be a tough one this time around.

I think you are grossly underestimating nature. Believe me, you never want to underestimate that.

You hear a lot of "it's looking better". It looks crappy. You wouldn't swim in the water. The smell and rotten fish are two miles out. The wind is keeping them out there. Change of wind and we will be seeing them again.

A bit south in Fort Meyers earlier today.
