Growing up in CT, we had a fast food place in the mall called "Boardwalk Fries" that just sold... Fries! And like someone said above... they started with great potatoes, cut them at time of order and fried them up piping hot!!! Still rate every fry against Boardwalk and have never found anything close!

The franchise still exists but has expanded to include burgers and shakes... but they will always be Boardwalk Fries to my family!

Curlys fries on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ - as well as AC and perhaps other shore towns - are similar. Just potatoes.

We are lucky here up north (snowbirds) as our small town nearby (Northampton, MA) has at least 4 places that all make fresh fries.....

Five Guys has excellent fries. The do cut them right in store. It's actually funny to see the posts above talking about boardwalk fries, because on the Five Guys website, this is actually how they describe theirs:
"Hot, fresh, boardwalk style fries, made to order each and every time. Cut fresh, cooked twice, firm on the outside and mashed-potato on the inside."
I wouldn't say they are mashed-potato on the inside, but they are certainly done right. You can get them regular or cajun.

I've tried them. They are fresh, but they don't make the cut for me. Franchise means they are subject to minimum wage prep. You simply aren't going to get the same quality as someone who cars more.

Too greasy for my taste - not sure what kind of oil or taters they use, but if Euro Frites are an 8 out of a 10, these are a 4. Would only tempt me if I war FAR away from anything else and needed some sale and grease.

I have had them also, and did not care for them. They were very greasy and limp. As I said, the ones I make at home just using the precut frozen shoestrings outshine almost everything else by a country mile.
