I have narrowed my choices to Centex Stonehaven which is on Clark Rd South of Bee Ridge Rd and Morrison Home Bradford Manor which is west of University Parkway north of Tuttle. Which area is better as far as location to grocery stores, banks and so forth and which area is lower in crime. I will be visiting in May and plan to move in the middle of June. If there are other alternatives for new homes whether single family or townhome in Sarasota please let me know. I want to live in a nice, safe area, that is centrally located. Thanks

I think Stonehaven would be a runaway winner when you compare the two. Very safe location. I-75 is a minute away to the east. Siesta key beaches are about 6 miles to the west. And it's closer to downtown than it's seems.
Sweetbay and RBC Royal bank are right on the opposite side of Clark, so is Beall's department store. Bank of America is a block further west, a few blocks further is Publix. Further west yet, about 5 minute drive, on Clark and Beneva is another Publix and Fifth Third Bank. If your grocery budget is tight, within a 15 minute drive is SuperWalmart on 41 in Osprey that has a full line of groceries and above average produce section.

Well, I just noticed that you want to move this summer. Unless you want to rent somewhere for 6-8 months, that may not work if you want a townhouse in Stoneheaven. Their next line of townhomes is due to be completed sometime between 12/2008 - 01/2009, and they will be 10K higher than the original price because of their waterfront location. If you want one of those you'll need hurry in with you 10% downpayment considering a limited supply and a pretty stable demand for them.
They do have a 3bed/2bath condos(Emerald and Topaz are the model names, I think) that should be more readily available though.
