It should be called: North Port - Sarasota - Bradenton

North Port has a lot more population than either Sarasota, or Bradenton. It's growing faster too.

Ditto. People across the country probably have heard of Venice, not North Port. But once they find the forum, they will learn much more about North Port.

After the Braves complex opens, Northport will become nationally known. The West Villages are busting out, and the City of Northport is annexing land like crazy. They have a huge new industrial/commercial park under construction next to the stadium and a large retail promenade. The cost of housing in North Port is extremely low, which further fuels growth.

Northport has a lot more land mass than SRQ or Bradenton, so its larger and more populated.

This is a local forum and most people who live in this area live in Northport. Those of us who live outside Northport are now in the minority. In the not too distant future, Northport will likely have more residents (potential C-D foum participants) than the City's of Sarasota & Bradenton combined!

I think we are stuck in the past by not having Northport's name in the title.

We have no say.

But, yeah, it will be decades before the order..in the mind of Joe Public is

Sarasota
Bradenton
North Port

Even when the Braves come most visitors are coming to Sarasota County and SRQ Airport and they are much more likely to be in Sarasota's orbit than in Charlotte, etc.

The city of North Port (over 100 square miles in area) is now larger than the city of Sarasota (14 square miles) by about 9000 people. The city of Sarasota is now actually growing too due to the boom in high rise condos being built in the downtown area.
BUT
there is a significant difference between these two cities. The METRO Sarasota area is approximately 300,000+ people now, and growing.

The Sarasota metro area has a major airport, an actual downtown, 3 malls, 3 major hospitals, 1400+ restaurants, bay front parks, 3 marinas, a yacht club, nightclubs, several colleges, etc.

North Port has a new baseball complex, but Sarasota and Bradenton both have stadiums and host major league teams for spring training.

Culturally Sarasota offers the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center, The Asolo theatre, Sarasota Opera, Sarasota Ballet, Sarasota Orchestra, Towles Court, McCurdy's Comedy Theatre, the Ringling museums, over 30 art galleries, an annual 10 day film festival... and that's just the tip of the cultural iceberg.

Sarasota offers a sizeable job market, especially compared to North Port.

You get the picture.

So should the forum name be changed? I too vote "no."

Actually, North Port really should be grouped with the Punta Gorda - Port Charlotte forum.
Distance from downtown Sarasota to North Port: 34 miles.
Distance from "downtown" North Port to downtown Bradenton: 47 miles.
Distance from "downtown" North Port to downtown Port Charlotte: 10 miles; 15 to Punta Gorda.

Not sure what the fuss is about...surely, there is room for nine letters and a space between the fifth and sixth letter without causing undue harm to the Florida forum???? Merry Christmas to all and congratulations to all who decided to move to this paradise!!!!
