You're right about the home size there. But OP mentioned being divorced. And being in the late 40ies it's likely that the kids are on their own by now. So considering the location, I thought it would be a good fit.

Ddlyn,
It is hard to things from a distance. We are in the process of making arrangements with the power and water companies. But it all falls into place over time. Last week I was a wreck, but reading threads on this forum took the pressure off.

Best,

Good point - it might be a good fit if she likes the area. There are lots of foreclosures down there right now - I just read in the Sarasota Herald Tribune that SW Florida had 5,500 filings SO FAR THIS YEAR! I am absolutely stunned. That means values are dropping like hot potatoes. Wow.

I also notice Sarasota is a bit expensive. I have been told Bradenton is probably similar to where I am now. I think the Clearwater area may be more geared to a younger crowd. I would love to be west of 75, maybe in an older neighborhood.
Any ideas would really be helpful.
Hi....I'm also trying to find out where to settle in that area (Clearwater south to Naples). I'm relocating from NJ in October and any feedback would sure help. I'm 59 and retired and single, so I'd like an area thats not to busy, but not to dead. I plan on renting for a year before I purchase a property. I'm a little apprehensive about the move, so I sure could use some helpful feedback. Thanks to all that reply!!

I will probably spend sometime there this weekend, but I also think about renting first. If I get some good ideas I'll pass on

We need good schools for the kids, nearer the beach if possible or easy acess, we are also looking to buy a business, and looking for a good friendly enviroment to live in but not too quiet. Gated community info also appreciated.
Hi pauldjones,
We just bought in a gated community in the Palmer Ranch area of Sarasota. I can't comment on the schools as this was not a concern for us. The area is quite nice, the community we bought in is about 15 minutes to downtown and 15 minutes to beach and 15 minutes from airport.
Check my post "Just bought in Sarasota. Helpful hints." and you might find some useful information about the process of buying a home.
Good luck and geel free to PM me if I can be of help.

Hi Miruca,
It works for us. The airport is Sarasota is a snap. The rent a car is just steps from the baggage claim and the it's on to Tamiani trail, into the house and out the door. Our buyer's agent really worked to get us the right spot.
Since our kids are grown ( at least agewise <G>) our needs are different than others.

Best,
