We are considering moving to Sarasota. The issue is that our son is emotionally handicapped and need special education. Does anyone know if the Sarasota school system has a good special ed program?

Thanks for your help!

It's not a bad program, but IMO it could be better. This is the case for all Public schools though. You will qualify for the McKay Scholarship though and you can look into private schools. Try Dreams are free.org it's a private school in Sarasota (off Fruitville) that is strictly for special needs students. It's a K-5 school though, Im not sure if that works for you. If it does, its a very small school with less than 10 kids in a class. They also have very few classrooms. Im an administrator for a private school nearby and I teach Sp Ed. If that isn't your first choice, try Oak Park school in Sarasota, That is a school specializing in special needs kids. If you need more info DM me!

Default Special Ed

There do seem to be a number of special education programs in the Sarasota area:

Oak Park School, Proctor Road (Public)
Dreams Are Free Institute (Private)
Manatee Glens (Public)
Easter Seals (Sarasota)
Pinnacle Academy

Those are the ones I'm aware of. You would probably want to have a chat with the administration at each.

Good luck.

I have given my Brother several different numbers/locations for Easter Seals. There has been no answer to any of the telephone numbers from online.

How can I reach Easter Seals Headquarters in Florida?

I can't give you a specific school, but this web-site might give you some directions and resources to reach out to:

If unsuccessful with the number listed online at https://www.easterseals.com/florida/, have you tried the contact form and received no response? You could also try reaching out via FB or Twitter and whoever handles their social media accounts should be able to put you in touch with someone. That link I provided includes a name & email address for someone who must work for them (scroll down to where it talks about a cooking class in Naples) - maybe she could help?
