Here's why the coronavirus may be killing more men than women. The US should take note
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn...ntl/index.html

In countries such as Italy, men represent nearly 60% of people who tested positive for the virus and more than 70% of those who have died, according to the country's National Health Institute (ISS). Even in countries like South Korea, where the proportion of women who have tested positive for the virus is higher than that of men, about 54% of the reported deaths are among men.

------------------------------------------------

Men are much more likely to die from coronavirus - but why?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.the...avirus-but-why

It has been well-publicised that Covid-19 discriminates by age and by underlying health conditions.

But it has become increasingly apparent that it also discriminates by sex, with men more likely to test positive and more likely to die from the disease.

The trend was first seen in China, where one analysis found a fatality rate of 2.8% in men compared with 1.7% in women.

Since then, the pattern has been mirrored in France, Germany, Iran, Italy, South Korea and Spain.

In Italy, men have accounted for 71% of deaths and, in Spain, data released on Thursday suggests twice as many men as women have died.

Administration officials say they can use testing to determine which parts of the country can end their coronavirus lockdowns:
https://news.google.com/articles/CAI...S&ceid=US%3Aen

In a letter to the nation’s governors Thursday afternoon, Trump previewed a plan to use "robust surveillance testing" to allow the federal government to “classify counties with respect to continued risks posed” by the coronavirus, rather than apply one set of nationwide social distancing guidelines, as the CDC did a little over a week ago.

The push would theoretically allow areas with relatively few cases of Covid-19, the illness caused by the unique coronavirus, to begin returning to normal, even as the virus ravages states like New York, which now has more than 44,000 cases and more than 500 deaths.

“There's a possibility I'll do it in quadrants, in pieces,” Trump said on Fox News Thursday night, when asked about his plans to get the country “back to work.”

Trump later posited that more relaxed social distancing guidelines, which call for Americans to stop congregating in groups of more than 10, could begin in the Farm Belt.

But neither the president nor leading officials involved in the pandemic response have explained in detail the kind of testing system necessary to make their latest proposal happen — or when it will be fully operational.

Bill Gates: State-by-state shutdown won't work
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation co-founder Bill Gates says that the US should shutdown the entire country for a short period of time to control the spread of the coronavirus and predicts that the number of cases will peak in late April.

DeSantis just asked nicely if people from New Orleans driving in would self-isolate for 14 days.

It actually boggles my mind that he has the nerve to get on the tube and actually say this. Does he think we fell off the turnip truck yesterday? Humans don't do things because he asks. He's ONLY doing each little thing well after people tell him it's a problem.....a total piecemeal approach. One which will not and cannot work.

If you care about Florida, yourself and your friends and family - please tell him and your elected representatives to shut the entire state down. That means really shut it down. Not a new "Please, will people from Atlanta that drive in not infect us?" every day.

It's as simple as this. Short of a miracle of a cure (both low odds) many more people in Florida (and elsewhere since people leave also) will perish if he doesn't take drastic action. That means cutting the flow in and out by a minimum of 95% and contact tracing and.or GPS tracking (what they did in Korea) for those who have to come (if you are a homeowner or similar).

Pain now? or vastly more pain later and over a longer period of time? Make the choice. So far it's the later.

No, I'm a community association manager. It's been business as usual.

Logically, if you think you need to test for COVID-19, then you probably have it.

New York's snowbirds, super-rich could stymie attempts to seal Florida borders
https://www.politico.com/states/flor...orders-1269262

NEW YORK CITY— New York’s got some bad news for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis: The snowbird has flown the coop.

In an effort to keep out coronavirus carriers from the epicenter of the outbreak, DeSantis on Monday ordered mandatory quarantines for passengers arriving by both land and air from the Empire State, Connecticut and New Jersey.

But try as he might to staunch the alleged flow of New Yorkers to Florida in the midst of the coronavirus, not only has nearly all flight traffic from New York area airports ground to a halt, the New Yorkers who want to be in Florida right now are probably already there. Those who still want to go will almost certainly find a way around his possibly illegal attempt to blockade them — some by private jet.

CDC to recommend all Americans wear protective masks in everyday life: report
https://news.google.com/articles/CBM...S&ceid=US%3Aen

On Saturday, Weill Cornell’s Dr. Matt McCarthy reported that the Centers for Disease Control will revise their recommendations on protective masks.

In the next ten days, the CDC guidelines will reportedly change to advising Americans to wear masks “in everyday life.” This contrasts with the current guidelines, which only recommend masks for high-risk groups like health care workers.

How to make an effective face mask at home:
https://news.google.com/articles/CAI...S&ceid=US%3Aen

Homemade face masks are not as effective as surgical masks or N95 respirators, but most experts say they are better than nothing when it comes to preventing the spread of the coronavirus.

Because there is a shortage of masks and respirators for health care workers, who need this equipment most, many people are making their own masks at home.

You can make your own face mask at home with common materials, whether you know how to sew or not — here's how.

Beware stimulus check scams:
https://news.google.com/articles/CAI...S&ceid=US%3Aen

(CNN)The federal government hasn't issued a single stimulus check yet, but scammers are already trying to steal the money from Americans.

These criminal efforts are prompting the Federal Bureau of Investigation, multiple state attorneys general and other agencies to warn Americans not to fall for phone calls, texts, emails or websites that ask for personal or financial information in order to receive the $1,200 federal payment.

"If someone claims to be from the government with a check for you, it may be a phishing scam that is illegally trying to obtain your bank account or other personal information," New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement Saturday.
