We were running errands today and Costco is limiting purchases of toilet paper, cases of water, paper towels and Clorox wipes to 2. A worker said that they’re gone a few hours after stock is put out. Not because people were buying for themselves but probably because some “entrepreneur” bought all that was there to resell on EBay...

Our son has cancer—he has a feeding tube and a PEG feeding tube—we use nitrile gloves daily—more than once, too...

Groceries in TX are doing the same thing==limiting purchases of certain items
All it does is make someone go to multiple stores to get what they think they need
My husband and I can go to Costco
We can Separate w/a basket each
And double our purchases

If you want to cheat there are ways...

I was at Disney Magic Kingdom yesterday. I expected low crowd levels but the place was packed. The media are definitely overstating the public reaction. I heard before going that the crowds were extremely low. We also picked up my daughter at Orlando International and the parking lots were full.

That’s not to say that there’s no cause for concern or that things can’t or won’t get significantly worse than they are now but there’s no doubt that the reports of panic buying are not the whole story.

The reason its alarming is because those with compromised lung functionality who are at risk of mortality are at MUCH greater risk than an average flu / cold. Its basically like this, the average healthy person won't feel much different than a strong flu or cold, but a person who has compromised lung functions as is could be seeing a death sentence.

The Flu comparatively kills about 0.1% of all known cases. This Virus kills aproximately 2% of all known cases - thats almost twice as many people.

Um about 20 times as many people....

The death rate is skewed because it hit a assisted living place in WA and that was horrible. Nothing you can do about that. I suspect the death rate to come down to flu level in a few weeks and this whole thing will start being more relaxed. I really think we are going nuts in some parts of the country. Here in Pittsburgh it is VERY mellow and grocery stores to my knowledge aren't effected at all. No one seems to care.

Not going to happen
The virus has no problem existing for days at 98 degrees
Right now FL is in winter mode and the temps are not close—just a balmy upper 80s

Plus consider that most of these people are going to contract the virus INSIDE an HVAC building
Nursing home in Seattle a perfect case in point
Those people were not going outside
Plenty of people in FL are in assisted living, senior facilities
Some small in-home groups
They also might be living on their own
The woman who has house across from ours in FL is in her 90s, lives alone, and has outlived most of her family....she has no safety net to fall back on if she becomes ill but to go to hospital...

And there are plenty of Snow Birds who came to FL for the winter before this virus was big deal and they are likely going to still drive home
That usually happens around Easter
They have a 3-6 mo lease on a condo or home and they don’t have the luxury of being in quarantine if their lease is out
Having large number of transient population (even if they come yearly for the winter) means that they don’’t have family or maybe friends who would be willing to help take care of them if they fall ill...
Going to put great burden on the public safety net

China released a model of the virus genome in Jan
Germany had a test available within a week
The US STILL doesn’t have enough test kits because
1–we would not accept another country’s test
2–the US/CDC screwed up the initial tests they had modeled when they created their own
3–the number of test kits were initially low because the thinking was the travel embargo worked
Then they realized it didn’t
By then the flawed kits were found to be flawed
4–we have an admin in charge of this national policy that does not want to see the problem for what it is

A NOVEL (new—no resistance on part of any human) virus with a very virulent ability to attack respiratory systems and create life-threatening damage
IF someone with a compromised respiratory system—COPD/asthma/heavy smoking—gets the more virulent form they can spend 10 days on a ventilator—-that means serious medical oversight required/ICU—

And some cases of serious infection/recovery are reporting NEUROLOGICAL damage extending past the hospital release
Like encephalitis can cause neurological damage after the infection is over

As I have said before
There are ongoing studies but not lot of the results have been peer reviewed and checked
There is lack of ACCURATE information in this country about the mechanics of this virus
Numbers of cases and deaths are scary but not really helpful...

Most likely there are limits on testing in the USA because Trump didn't want the number of positives to increase in the USA. He sees this as his "ratings". When this last cruise ship had thousands of Americans that were stuck on the ship a few days ago, Trump cared more about refusing entry into the USA because if they entered the USA, the volume of positive patients would increase. Trump only cared about his "ratings" - i.e. keeping the number of positive cases as low as possible. Limiting test kits and reducting testing keeps Trumps "ratings" better. And that is all that matters to Trump. He's ok if millions die over this because he wants to keep the testing limited so that his "ratings" are better (fewer positives because fewer tested).
