The bolded statement is not 100% true. The county decided to close our beaches because other beaches were already closed at the time, so they were afraid we would get an influx of people if we're the only ones open. If all the beaches in the areas are open, then people would just go to whichever beach they're close to, which means the crowd will be spread around just like usual.

The spring break photos were not even taken from our beaches, and I bet some of them were stock photos, just like that Twitter photo about a Jacksonville beach that's currently circulating.

Speaking of Jacksonville beaches, they were packed on opening day, but traffic went down after the novelty wore off.

You can't stop people from coming, look at the out of town license plates still driving all around town, road checkpoints or not. Some of these folks may be part time residents who probably didn't want to go through the hassle of changing license plates, so you're saying they have no rights to go to the beach although they pay local taxes just like full time residents? Last I checked, this is still a free country, no?

So rather then spend that money and energy trying to prevent people from going to the beach (of all things!), how about spending it on something else more urgent, like buying more testing kits that everyone is insisting on having?

Sarasota County Beaches opening Monday, with restrictions, and parking lots closed? That is how I read this article.

Venice beaches may remain closed...unsure. The bottom of the article says "still developing"

.
The first day it will be like the Saturday of Easter trying to find a parking spot at the main beach.

They closed the beaches because they did not want out of town people overcrowding the beaches. Authorities said that people HERE were practicing social distancing and that there were no issues HERE. Not sure why this is hard to understand. It's exactly what happened.

And no, it's NOT a free country. That's why we are stuck at home, schools and small businesses are closed, and WE CAN'T GO TO THE BEACH RIGHT NOW.

Sheesh.

No out of towners.
Any vacationers who fly into Florida and rent a car will have a Florida license plate so how will you determine the out of towners?

Oh, I understand just fine but I'm not going to continue this argument since they're not going to ban out of town visitors from going to the beach, so it's a moot point.

I find it ironic that you're complaining about freedom but you are ok putting restrictions on someone else's freedom.

I don't really call this "opening" the beaches. With restrictions and no place to park.... well how many are going to be there anyway? Ironically, the beach is one of the best places for one's health, physical and mental.

They'd have to show ID...drivers licenses.
