In reviewing the dental providers in my insurance coverage, there are multiple dentists at the multiple locations of Greenberg Dental in both Sarasota and Manatee Counties. I am also noting that my insurance lists dentists in the several offices of Advanced Dental Care.

I would appreciate any information & advice - both positive and negative - regarding dentists in both the Greenberg Dental system, and in Advanced Dental Care. Thank you!

If your insurance is really only showing Greenberg Dental, you most likely have a dental HMO (DMO).
DMOs are almost exclusively accepted at large chain dental offices. Greenberg has about 100 offices throughout Florida.

The actual care you receive at a chain is almost totally dictated by the random dentist that is assigned to the office by the chain. Some are very good. But the majority of the time it is a dentist fresh out of school. Chain dental offices have become the new “residency” programs for dentist graduating, and will be there 1-2 years.

Crushed by student loan debt, these dentist need a place to go to help payoff their debt and a job that provides continuing education with chance to see LOTS of patients to practice dentistry.

PPO insurance is accepted at almost every dental office. Chains do accept PPOs but you aren’t bound to that office as you are with an DMO.

If you have to use a DMO, the largest dental chain in the world is actually the best of the lot IMO. It’s a group called Heartland dental, but they don’t advertise as Heartland. They take a local name like a creek, lake, street and add “dental care” after it and that’s is name. You may want to see if something like that appears on your provider list.

Every large business has its faults, but heartland seems to have a better overall system in place.
