I'm not sure if this link will open since they sometimes block access, but it says a Judge has blocked Mattamy Homes from keeping its Wellen Park Master planned community inside the city limit of North Port.

Instead, it will move back into unicorporated Sarasota County, which is a victory for a group of residents there who organized against Mattamy, and had a petition signed by many residents there.

I'm not sure how that will impact the mailing addresses there. Most prefer Venice, or Sarasota, mailing addresses over North Port. I would agree with them.

The Judges ruling does not make it final, but it sounds like an important step in the local residents direction over Mattamy Homes and its Wellen Park development.

Another issue is if this means the Wellen Park special taxing district has been abolished, or not, or if it will be abolished if the Judges decision becomes final.

If anyone here has more specific info on this, or if I have provided any inaccurate info here, please reply.

I personally like it when local residents win out over deep pocketed developers. I commend those who organized this effort, and hope their hard work wins out permanently.

The judge denied a preliminary injunction requested by the developers. The homeowners have a long way to go and I wish them luck, but this state is extremely developer friendly so it's going to be an uphill battle to break away from Northport. It was a good win but only the beginning.
