The high today in Nashville is 38 degrees with icy roads from the last couple of days of sleet and even colder weather. It is supposed to be 79 degrees in Bradenton today. That might have something to do with why there are people relocating to Florida.

Not sure why there is so much hate and attempted dissuasion to keep people from moving there. People relocate to the Nashville area, not as much for weather, but decent cost of living and good jobs. The growth here is much higher than the national average, but I am not telling to go look elsewhere.
Folks are selfish. They do the same here, in Idaho. See they have it good and want no change. I tell folks come, Idaho as well as Florida belong to God and he shares.

I simply tell people not to wear blinders in making a life's choice, whether it's a physical move across the nation, or seeking a new job.

Selfish? that's rich! I don't TELL PEOPLE TO COME or do anything other than THINK for yourselves, and not listen to the herd.

Florida is not for everyone, neither is Idaho, neither is NYC, neither is Juneau AK.

I don't encourage people I DON'T KNOW. That's insane (and dangerous).

I agree that Florida isn't for everyone and you need to visit the area to know what it offers and if it is a fit. I don't encourage either, just state facts for people to assess. But, I am don't come on here and dissuade people as if they have no business seeing if Florida might be a fit.

Looks like you are telling people not to come. Below is your post yesterday. If that is not telling people not to come, I don't know what is.

Given what you outlined which is highlighted, why on earth would you look to Sarasota FL? (maybe Manatee...maybe), but of all the cities to regard/investigate in the South with a young family, I would never look at Sarasota as an option, never. I would look at towns and cities in SC, NC, GA or especially Texas if I were moving all the WAY from the west coast of the US. Texas is a better bet for the future it seems to me.

I don't know if you're hellbent on FL, but given your comment and Priorities, I would broaden my search in other states if you're looking to move away from the west coast....Sarasota would be my last choice given what you highlighted.....as important.

Discover central TN, small but intelligent places like Huntsville AL, Spartanburg-Greenville, Raleigh (Research Triangle), Asheville NC and suburbs outside Charlotte....

Coastal GA, and even outside Jacksonville but only in Ponte Vedra Beach

But moving from the west coast? (We own and still own a place in La Jolla) I would never move to Sarasota with a younger family! too many wonderful town options in other SE, SW states! my first choice would be in Texas, second choice TN, third SC, fourth maybe Jax

Good luck

I sure did state that ^^^, and it was in direct response to the poster's CONSTRAINTS and own "priorities"....

YOU are also cherry-picking what I clearly stated which reveals your intentional misunderstanding what I said in toto about Florida to wit :

"Coastal GA, and even outside Jacksonville but only in Ponte Vedra Beach"

The last time I checked Jacksonville is STILL in The State of Florida, and so is Ponte Vedra Beach.

Thus, you have no basis for your feeble retort. I did not exclude Florida, I simply spoke about other great SE towns and cities to consider for a family with young children in re making that huge huge move all the way from the WEST COAST of this nation. Dismissing decent options for that kind of move seems narrow and a bit foolish. It's not like someone moving from Georgia or TN to The State of Florida.

Go read and hopefully comprehend for godsake....I also stated: " maybe Manatee....maybe"

I don't work for the local Chamber of Commerce, Real Estate Sales firms, Moving companies or the Welcome Wagon. Whether you acknowledge it or not, Florida is getting hammered by population shift, and that population movement is having a negative effect on the infrastructure, the schools, services, government and the body politic like no other time before in history. Don't believe me, go speak with policemen, firemen, hospital staffs, school administrators, contractors, road builders, water resource managers, examine government budgets, and even vehicle traffic/accident data.

I simply don't turn a blind eye to the realities. Look what happened to California (where the poster now wants to flee....ALL the way across the darn continent).

Good Luckgl

And frankly, we're getting waay too many relos here in FL, and everyone knows it, but of course you're free to move anywhere at any time, but you should do your own research about other great towns and cities in America for young families to prosper and enjoy. In some ways, FL is becoming CA, which is a bad thing in my book and other locals' book.

Keep in mind, The Great State of Tennessee doesn't have an income tax either.

Good luck.
I've lived in Manhattan for 13 years, NorCal for 5 years. And am originally from Buffalo/WNY. FL is NOT CA. Trust me, not even close, 90% of the people in CA have never even BEEN to FL. I am not exaggerating. Boise, Denver, Oregon, Austin and on and on, will become CA decades before FL. That said, TN was on our list, but I have family in FL and know not a single person in TN.

I don't think Sarasota is conservative socially. I think once you hit Hillsborough and south, its not conservative.
