Hello all,

My husband and I are planning to move from Colorado to Florida in the next months.
We recently started our research and we are interested in Tampa. We have been there and we love it, specially the beaches!
After a lot of research our mind is between a few places (please do not judge the difference between these places, we are very open minded and we’ve seen the good things about each area)
1. Wesley Chapel - Land O’ Lakes
2. North Port
3. Venice

Like I said, I know that Wesley Chapel is very different from NP regarding to quietness but also the Housing Market in North Tampa is crazy right now. Houses are just going up and up while in NP and Venice are still affordable for us.

What we like? Quite places, but not far from the city. We have a one year old baby girl and expecting the second one so we anticipate our life is going to chance in regards to activities. We also like the beaches like I mentioned previously and low crime rate is also very important to us. Lastly, good schools. That is also priority for us.

Thank you in advance for reading my post and for your time answering my questions

Interesting suggestion coming from someone who just joined a week ago. Jim/Shecky/CVP/etc can't seem to just pick one username and stick to it. What a tiresome childish game.

What is your budget? This will determine where you should look. I am not familiar with Venice and North Port. They are far from the city of Tampa, but if you want quiet go for them.

These are the areas with top schools in Hillsborough county. You are looking at $300k-400K at the lowest on average.
South Tampa (priciest), Fishhawk in Lithia, Wesley Chapel, and Lutz.

Tampa and Venice are very different areas. I've lived in Tampa for 11 years and I'll do weekend vacations in Venice. It's just 90 minutes away, but it's different enough to feel like you're getting away. The main differences are Venice is a much slower pace and it's a beach town. Tampa isn't as fast of pace as other major cities, but the difference between Tampa and Venice in terms of pace is very palatable. Tampa itself really isn't close to the beach either (Wesley Chapel is probably 1 hour away considering Pasco County doesn't really have beaches.)

If you want a slower pace beach town, go with Venice. If you want a faster pace and more big city ammenities, go with Tampa. Both have good schools.

I don't know Venice well enough to give specific recommendations. Venice Island is good, as are many other points west of 41. There are good neighborhoods east of 41 too, but I'm just not sure which are the best since I'm mostly by the beach. The southern half of Sarasota County has great schools so you're set there.

Within the Tampa Bay area I recommend Safety Harbor, Palm Harbor, East Lake, Westchase, Odessa, Lutz, Wesley Chapel, or New Tampa. These areas are all great for families, have good schools, and are more affordable than South Tampa.

I don't recommend North Port.

Venice has a much older population than North Port. North Port is more family-oriented, and Venice is more retiree-oriented. Neither has any type of night life. Venice is closer to Sarasota and Tampa, but only negligibly so. If you were interested in North Port, I'd recommend sticking to the area between Sumter and Toledo Blade and between Price and I-75. I can't think of any less desirable neighborhoods in that big square. There are some other nice areas, too, but I think the iffy areas are more interspersed with them. Definitely stay away from Warm Mineral Springs. Nothing off of Biscayne (unless you're way down by the interstate) or points west (north?) unless you're going as far as Venice. I can't recommend specific neighborhoods there. I'm also not familiar with the communities in and around Tampa as far as living there goes, but of course you'd be closer to the city, which would be a positive. I imagine prices are higher up there now, though.
