Teen Shot and Killed Near Lakewood Ranch During Dispute Between Two Gangs at an Illegal Gathering of 50+

This occurred just south of Lakewood Ranch, a little bit to the west of the Windward community.

No one is in custody.

Sad thing is the kid shot wasn’t involved in the dispute nor the intended target.

Yeah...just wait...there will be quick posters that "it wasn't really in Lakewood Ranch", ho ho ho......(and it really is damn close to all of the new expansion where Lakewood Ranch Road intersects Fruitville)

Oh, but It was asserted by new transplants that Lakewood Ranch .doesn't have a "crime problem" LOL...yeah right, go ask both Sheriffs Departments (Manatee and Sarasota). I remember reading here that Sarasota/Manatee doesn't have a "gang problem", yeah right!

Things will get worse with population shifting and increases. Is it epidemic? well no, but it's amazing the number of people who live close to me that have their heads in the sand about crime growth.

This one tops of a couple of drug deals gone bad, resulting in murder, in and next to LWR (one involved a 14 year old who tried to rob drug dealer):

There was also a guy who broke into an LWR house, armed with an AR-15:

And of course your average teenage house party with 500+ people and police only arriving after shots were fired:

Hey and what do you know, 2 more shootings in LWR already this year:
S2201040007 01/04/2022 00:04 SHOOTING NO INJURIES 8300 BLOCK LAKEWOOD RANCH BLVD LWRMC
S2201040007 01/04/2022 00:04 SHOOTING W/INJURIES 8300 BLOCK LAKEWOOD RANCH BLVD LWRMC

At least one person was hit, unknown of they survived.

And of course incidents like this are not on the news, you have to check the sheriff’s website to find out about them.

I stopped and spoke with deputies at the outpost/precinct, they described a large increase in calls, complaints and incidents. Of course the sheriff's website details ALL kinds of increase of dispatched calls in, and all around LWR/Manatee County...Sarasota County evidently doesn't want the public to read about dispatched calls (by street) - at least on their website (or I can't find it) BY STREETs)

And I bet they are native Floridians, not the dangerous transplants that you are so scared of.

Sorry, after a bit of research, the majority of the dispatched calls are to investigate alleged criminal/civil violations (assault, robbery, trespass, and even process service) were by fairly recent transplants, including an episode of a murder in LWR.

This also includes several very closely located episodes of enforcement of the Baker Act....and discharge of shots and vehicular homicide.

The media, e.g. Bay News 9 and others reported what Manatee County Sheriff's Department stated as the impetus for established a LWR SUBSTATION:

One article stated:

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. — Manatee County officials say they are seeing an increase in crime.
  • Crime rates inch higher in Manatee
  • Sheriff's Office: Vehicle thefts and burglaries
  • New sheriff's substation in Lakewood Ranch
However, they are advising the public to be aware, take precautions and so things as simple as lock house doors and car doors to avoid becoming a victim....
Lakewood Ranch is one of the fastest growing areas in Manatee County.
Deputies are targeting that area because the crime rate has risen with the influx of people....Wells said. "Our deputies will now have another office location to work from, which not only increases our response time to calls, but also allows the public a more convenient place to stop, ask questions, and file reports if needed. This is a great addition to the Lakewood Ranch community."

Of course, Lakewood Ranch is not immune, neither is anywhere else in the area, and it's getting worse unfortunately...all over.
