I hear you and agree with you. But I also see the other side, and that harm that it can cause. It is truly a slippery slope.

Now days, had not been in grained in us from Childhood you could not yell fire in a theater, people would fight for it claiming it is free speech right.

At some point the ball has swung too far, but the question is are we there yet. I am all for free speech, but when your speech is designed to be destructive to the country and knowingly false it gets tough. So many people are blind to any truths shown to them and just latch on to the nonsense as fact.

Rumble "promised" $50 million for the community - but that doesn't mean their guaranteed to deliver. It's a relatively new platform and it was a risky investment by Sarasota. Does anybody remember the almighty Sanborn Studios that the geniuses in Sarasata went gaga over??? Let me resfresh your memory:

Sarasota County doled out thousands to help Sanborn Studios create jobs and put the region on the national entertainment map. The deal shows what can go awry -- and sometimes does -- in the region's incentive efforts.

So all kinds of companies across the world are currently cutting ties with Russia over the horror & death unfolding in Ukraine. Publix banned Russian Vodka, Visa & Mastercard ceased operations in Russia, flights from Russia are now banned into the USA. Everybody's making sacrifices - but Sarasota - Shhhhh, we'll keep our association with Rumble quiet and take their money. Thank you very much....

^^^sometimes fact is disputed, and rightfully so, just because someone claims something as a "fact", it really doesn't unequivocally mean it's true and beyond reproach...

Our History in this nation, even written in textbooks declared "facts" about Jews, Blacks, and even women, that were disseminated with vigor and righteousness throughout our society that were patently false, but were hardly challenged for irrational reasons, but nonetheless were "accepted" as "facts".

Now, for example, certain media and media platforms have gleefully disseminated their "fact" that there is no such thing as "only two genders", or that "gender is fluid", and even "men can get pregnant", or "transgender women are not male" (or transgender men are not women").
Many have suggested this nonsense as fact, and have spread these "facts", but they fail to mention that these sort of "facts" do not pass the Scientific Method.

I'm not afraid to make my own decisions through discovery of information.

Sometimes the gatekeepers of "fact", (platforms, forums, news, universities, activists, editorials, etc) are distorters of truth....many times they keep repeating lies, hoping they will become "fact", or undisputed/unchallenged "fact".

Facts can be fleeting, incomplete, distorted, untested and even politicized. Just Look at Dr. Fauci for a prime example. His "facts" were never complete, and his facts "evolved", other "facts" were demonstrably wrong.

Nope, no curtailing of freedom of speech (notwithstanding the old "theater" exception). Hate speech should be continued to be protected speech.

The "Speech Police" try to restrict and change/control language. Can't use the "n word", Can't call a homosexual a 'h o m o', or 'q u e e r person', can't call BLM a shakedown operation, can't call a "person of Color", "Colored" (which is the same damn thing).

Most people have a few brains, but many elitists among us think they should be the arbiter of all things factual - they'll tell us what to think, what to say, what to believe, and what a fact truly means.

Are you a fan?

I personally am not a fan of that particular platform. Don't like the stories they cover or present on their front page. don't like their spin.
I do look at the platforms first a an initial cut - for example I won't watch cable channel newsmax on my tv.
Same thing with infowars or brietbart on the internet.
Others love the news that they get from those outlets.
To each is own.
We have not had cable tv in 8+ years! We cancelled every cable tv channel. We own 2 tv's, that are hooked up to a dish antenna for local broadcasting. Neither tv has been turned on in weeks. We are much happier w/o it. I didn't even know Newsmax was a cable tv channel, until I read your post.

We don't have cable either. Dropped it when we moved 2.5 years ago. I have a Roku which I never watch. I mainly stream youtube vids for entertainment and I pay for the Premium version. I also don't subscribe to newspapers. I know most of what I read in any media is crap.

Ooops. The Sarasota commissioners made a boo-boo ... again

Sarasota Commission bumbles its way around Rumble vote

Sarasota Commission bumbles its way around Rumble vote - Herald-Tribune

On Oct. 26, the Sarasota County Commission entertained a proposal that would bring a successful tech platform company to Longboat Key. How could anyone pass this up? Exciting times indeed.

The Sarasota County Economic Development Corp. – condemned in the past for ineffectiveness – made the pitch to the commissioners, recommending this particular Canadian company receive an incentive grant worth $825,000 of taxpayer money to establish its U.S. headquarters on LBK.

During the presentation, discussion and subsequent vote by the commissioners, the tech company’s name was kept confidential. The company was actually called – of all things – “Project Sunshine.”

So they went ahead, all five commissioners, and agreed to the grant, subject to their approval of a financial incentive agreement with the county.

Now, the commissioners didn’t know if the company was a platform specific to pornography, pedophiles, or puppies eating peanut butter, but who were they to care? The EDC said highpaying jobs were a-coming, rattled off numbers no one could possibly verify, and that, shockingly, was good enough to move forward.

Not once did someone say, “You know, I’d feel a little more comfortable peeling off 800 large if I knew who these guys actually were.”

Ah well, not to worry. It all worked out fine. Just as you’d expect. It’s not like the code name “Project Sunshine” turned out to be a platform for Russian propaganda during a war or anything.

Whoops. In a Nov. 3 public announcement, the company revealed itself as Rumble, a conservative video platform noted for spreading COVID misinformation, hosting Donald Trump’s social media network, and most notably, for allowing RT – the Russian State Television Network – to operate when nearly every major platform in the world rejected it because of the invasion of Ukraine.

Commissioners Christian Ziegler, Michael Moran, and Ron Cutsinger said in text messages this week that they did not know the name of the company, or that the company in question was Rumble, when the vote took place at the meeting. Nancy Detert did not return a message. Chair Alan Maio does not speak with the Herald-Tribune.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh and the story gets even better:

Enterprise Florida, according to the meeting presentation, approached the EDC about Rumble moving here, an opportunity, perhaps, to save itself as Moran has called for the EDC to remain funded only through 2022 because of its past inadequacies, unless it can “prove itself.”

This is astounding no matter how you look at it. You have five commissioners basing an $825,000 decision on job numbers provided by an underperforming economic development entity about to become extinct for an anonymous company that provides Russian propaganda.

I can't understand why any company would want to relocate their headquarters to LBK. Traffic on LBK is often backed up for miles during tourist season, and it can take an hour to get on or off LBK.
