I don't predict. I can't assert anything about the future.

I do know that smart home owners have been selling into this market all the way up. It's been over priced for months and months.

The trend is not your friend in this overheated housing market.

My take.

At $500k, Sarasota is a steal compared to some of these cities:

https://fortune.com/2022/04/18/citie...llion-dollars/

San Fran is $1.3, so Sarasota's $500k is a bargain.

Hard to compare in some ways. San fran a major city and a tech hub which is a major industry. Sarasota area, venice etc. Has a older median age, retired boomers from new England bringing their money their earned up there down here.

San fran has big money people, working age under 60 and Apple and Google nearby with a robust tech sector, and culturally has a ton to offer.

I could never live on san fran or la cause I'm not a flaming liberal, even Florida is too moderate for my taste. But i cant deny san fran, la is much more vibriant and fun for a single 38 year old like me compared to swfl south of tampa which is dominated by the baby boomers.

If California had decent gun laws I'd love to live in southern california. It this were the 1960s cali was a conservative state back then. Id pick it over fl.

So is a steal in south Mississippi by comparison.

Comparing San Fran to any city in Florida seems insane and lacks wisdom. How about Butte Montana? Pine Bluff Arkansas?

No sane buyer would compare apples to oranges. Longview Texas is a steal compared to Mountain Brook, Alabama.

Touting or justifying/rationalizing incrementally higher and higher prices here in this area "compared" to NYC, Dairen CT, DC, or San Fran is patently crazy.

A house in Paris is a steal to a house in Cote A'zur.

This is Sarasota/Manatee FLORIDA. The place is overpriced at this point. San Fran is NOT a logical benchmark.

My take.

A lot of places in Florida and California are overpriced. If you're retired I can see FL being a better fit because it's still cheaper than California, but if you're in an advanced career in technology and have a very high earning potential, a place like the Bay area would be a no brainer. Not going to find something as good as Google and there is no Apple Park in the middle of Sarasota County.

Sure you are, as that is me. They all allow Remote workers now. It has changed the world and is one of the main reasons for the price increases. People like me can live where they want now without taking huge pay cuts.

Not all professional jobs are remote work! Sure mid range jobs are, but the executive level and the high end ones are still based out in the bay area around the industry. Texas is another state bringing in more tech sector jobs from california. Tesla is moving there and will bring a lot of them.

I work for myself but if i had to work for someone I gotta be at the top. Mid range doesnt cut it for me.

I dont think I could do tech. Too many nerds my age range in it.

Id like to see next census how much the median age has gone up with all the snowbirds that moved here full time now. Will be eye opening.

Sarasota, lee, collier, charlotte county all had their median ages jump by a couple years.

So many incorrect assumptions in this post... Basically every C level person at my company is in Chicago or London. We are a Fortune 100 Tech company.

Makes sense London. Huge city in Europe and logistically speaking too for travel reasons rather than having them all based in the US.
