From the article:

Chicago-based C.H. Johnson Consulting, Inc., conducted a feasibility report for the project, which recommended that the complex be at least 100,000 square feet and include eight full-sized basketball courts. These could be converted into 16 volleyball courts or 24 pickleball courts. A facility of this size would be able to hold large tournaments.

C.H. Johnson Consulting also recommends that the facility have locker rooms, a concession/café bar concept, at least four multipurpose rooms and other amenities.

The story mentions that Ironman tourneys might be possible in the future
Those are big draws from around the world if there is the right sponsorship/money/prestige associated with it

That area is where MOTE is building its new aquarium

Pickle ball is getting to be very popular as well—and I know when my daughter played volleyball league years past there was problem growing the league because of limited indoor court space

Could be a winner if the powers that be dont run amok with the design process and can get sponsorships/ donations

"The building will be located on the island at Nathan Benderson."

When I see events there, the island is already full - parking, tents, vendors, etc. How is there room for a large building on the island, plus everything else that is already using that space? I can't imagine there would be parking available there for the large tournaments they want.
