The city of Sarasota has been listed on a new national ranking, but this time, it's not the usual best places to retire ranking prompting the attention. Instead, Sarasota has earned a spot on a list of the Top 10 best cities in the United States to party, according to the website BonusFinder.com.

Sarasota cracked the top five, ranking as the fourth-best party city in the country, according to the website's survey of over 100 U.S. cities. Criteria such as the number of live music events, bars, hotels, nightclubs, casinos, adult entertainment venues and late-night restaurants helped to determine the list of 10 hotspot cities.

The survey analyzed a total of 100 cities and collected data, including population figures for U.S. cities, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, as well as the number of music events listed on Eventbrite across a weekend in each city, before compiling the final list of 10 cities it found to be the best spots to enjoy a weekend.

Additional information such as the average cost of an alcoholic beverage, hotel price and the cost of an Uber or cab ride from the airport to the city center was also included. The data was then compared to the locations’ population, and time of last orders, to reveal which cities are the top for partying.

See, this is the problem with going strictly off quantitative rules to rank places. Sarasota isn’t the 4th best place in Florida, let alone the US.

These days, it seems almost laughable to call it a "party city" but a guess it is, for the boomers. Everywhere you go at current music venues and bars, the patrons AND the entertainers are in their 60s and above.
This boomer will be there in May! I’m looking forward to meeting more people my age!

Yep! I'm 39, but are there any hot cougars around 50? if they're like Melania Trump I could go for them lol. Even 50 might be too young to find around here!

There are some clubs in Siesta Key Village that draw a younger crowd.

Party. Where? Few piano bars and a lots of places outside, mostly Rock n roll- honkytonk and country. They do have concerts, but Tampa/ st Pete leave them behind. What’s big are the membership clubs, the Moose, A Legion, VA etc. and ballroom dancing. Being from Miami, I guess the writers have no idea comparing SFL to Sarasota, maybe they have never visited the clubs with 2/3 separate dance floors and bars.
I’m ok going to what is available, I love dancing, but its not #1 in clubs. Guess it’s what appealing to the age groups. I have gone downtown Sarasota to some bars years ago, but the traffic is just too much anymore to enjoy going that far.

Clubs or bars. Went to the piano bar on Cortez, it was nice but small, I like Woodys and Joyland is great and sometimes have oldies etc not just line dancing. That’s huge here. Not my thing.

Another ridiculous survey. No New York or New Orleans in top ten? Sarasota rated higher than Las Vegas? Come on.
