Sprouts Farmers Market is opening a store in downtown Sarasota.

The natural and organic food grocer has leased 23,000 square feet at the One Main Plaza development currently under construction. The developer, Belpointe REIT Inc. of Greenwich, Connecticut, says the store will be in Aster & Links, a two-building complex being built on Main Street and Links Avenue.

The Sprouts will be the second natural food and organic grocery store in area, joining Whole Foods Market, which is about a mile away, on First Street.

Good news, I really like Sprouts. Expensive, but they have some great fresh local stuff and things you can't find at other stores. Good news overall.

Nah - Sprouts is not like Whole Foods (which is significantly more expensive than a normal grocery store) - it's more like Trader Joe's. Their prices are generally pretty reasonable to low cost overall. Some of their specialty homeopathic stuff might be priced high, but food overall is fairly reasonable.

The TJs by me (Asheville NC) has produce that has sometimes seen its day. The distribution point is Daytona Beach which may improve the freshness in Florida.
I go to Whole Foods for most of my produce.

Definitely agree - Whole foods produce and meat is leagues above almost every other store I've come across. Their quality is high...but so are their prices. I typically fruit and vegetables from Whole Foods, meat from my butcher, and then will go to the other chains for stuff I'm less picky about in terms of quality.

Is Sprouts any good? I go to Farmer Joes in Cape Coral a lot. I noticed when Sprouts opened the business has gone WAY down there. It's a ghost town in there and they've laid people off. The first year Farmer Joes opened it was packed shoulder to shoulder and good selection. Go on a weekday now and it's deserted.
