Pearl Ave (as you will) is in Manatee Co with the zip code 34243 and the address is Sarasota.
Zip code 34243 is a Sarasota address and some of it is in the University Ave. area but is still in Manatee Co.
Pearl Ave in Sarasota's Manatee Co. side actually borders with Bradenton, also in Manatee Co. and the 34207 zip.

Pearl Avenue is technically in
Manatee County , but it has a
Sarasota address and a
zip of
34243 . That is like the Sarasota-Bradenton Convention Center, it is in Manatee County, but it's city address is Sarasota. Same with Pearl Avenue.

So of that list which looks impressive, you have 307 misdemeanors or non-violent felonies aka Property Crimes. Meaning most were petty crimes.
These are NOT indications of massive gang infiltration.
Merely printing out the blotter with every last thing on it shows that yes, Bradenton is like any other moderately sized city with a reasonable mix of young and old population. Of course there is crime.
But that list does not in any way make any point regarding the tone of those who insist that newcomers should avoid the area.
I checked the West LA PD blotter and even though there is a MUCH larger police presence and the neighborhoods are much more affluent than Bradenton (factors to offset population and lower income), they still had over 300 property crimes for the last week of June '08.
If you were to see the Blotter for major metro area, it'd make Bradenton look like the sticks.
As another metric, what was the ratio of crimes per 10,000 people? My old neighborhood was 114.8. And those are partial. The Culver City PD crime stats are not available online.
Again, Bradenton has issues like any growing city. Issues which this recession certainly exacerbate. The question was asking about if Bradenton was an okay place to live. And it is. Some may like it in other places and that's fine, God Bless.
My only point was that the laundry list from the Blotter not only doesn't prove anything, it provides a VERY false impression for someone who wouldn't take the time to actually break down what crimes were included. Now, if you broke it down by violent crime, crime per 10k population, % increase in crime year over year and year over 5 year periods, THEN it might mean something. Just publishing the list doesn't mean anything in and of itself.

I live in Cincinnati , Ohio now and can tell you this, if you think Bradenton is bad, you would think Cincinnati is a third world country or a war zone of sorts , I grew up in Bradenton thinking it was kinda bad too, I can tell you after living in Cincinnati and Chicago for the last couple years, Bradenton is so safe and has no real ghetto areas, I am talking about places you would not go into , day or night.
peolple in Florida are used to country clubs and older white folks in there neiborhoods and become dis elutioned when they see t here city having a shooting or black kid on the news who had commited a petty crime at the circle K on the other side of town..
