Just wondering if anyone can tell me if there are any jobs in the mental health field in the area that don't require being either a Doctor or a Nurse? I currently work at a Security Hospital in Minnesota for the Mentally Ill and Dangerous as a Security Counselor (guard/counselor), and would like to stay in a similar line of work when we move to FL in early January. Any info you can offer would be great! Thanks bunches

There used to be a secure psychiatric hospital out in Arcadia. But, the state closed it a number of years ago. I think there was a bit of a stink about it, because there was no where for the patients to go when it closed and many of them ended up back on the streets without treatment.
Overall, I don't think there is much in the way of mental health facilities in Sarasota County. But you could try Sarasota Memorial hospital. I think they may be the only hospital to treat mental illness.

If you're willing to travel to Bradenton there is a facility called Manatee Glens.

Manatee Glens - Home

I've driven by it and it looks like a nice place.
The site I gave you has a career opportunity listing.

Good Luck

All across the country there has been a trend to eliminate or (at least) greatly reduce the number of psychiatric hospitals. Many states have turned out scores of people that previously would have been housed and supported. The metally frail are living under bridges, are homeless, and many move south to avoid the harsh climates. Good luck finding a similar career opportunity - my guess is that will be a hard find.

I just did a web search for mental health Sarasota county and more than a dozen options popped up for you.
There is mental health help out there for those that need and I am certain you'll find what you're looking for.
