Hi there,

Someone (Suncoast Guy) on the Tampa forum told me that Sarasota is a really nice city but that they don't allow homeless guys.

I am curious if anyone might be able to fill me on what he might have meant? He said police take them away.

You see...I will be living in my vehicle while I go all over the central Florida region doing window cleaning. So technically...I will be homeless. Will they take me away?

Carlos

Yes, no homeless policy in Sarasota, read links below. According to the top link, police will take you either to a shelter or to the jail for sleeping outside. Again, read more below:

Hi Suncoast Guy!

Fancy meeting you here LOL.

It seems after reading those links (thanks) that the city is maily concerned with homeless camping or otherwise just laying down to sleep. Signs of lodging is what they look for (i.e. cooking, tent, etc..).

Since I would be sleeping in my vehicle, would have lots of money on me, and would otherwise not be like your typical, scruffy looking homeless guy, I am not sure I would qualify as violating the ordinance. Don't know. I will have to email the police there and inquire if I decide to hang out in Sarasota while doing window cleaning there.

For now I am leaning towards Orlando. I've been there before. It's big and congested and hot but lots of quick service type jobs available there. Lots of vehicles of all types for sale there too.

Once I get a vehicle I can roam around Florida to see which area I would like to settle down in.

Carlos

Carlos,

In your first post you said you live in your vehicle and in your 2nd post you said "once I get a vehicle I can roam around Florida" are you leaving your vehicle in Canada? How are you planning on getting to Florida?

If you have lots of money "on you" then can't you get a place? Are you a US citizen? I was just wondering so you might be able to get assistance til you get on your feet. Heck, that's right, I guess in the US you can just enter illegally and the gov't will take care of you.

Are you planning on working or are you just going to work odd jobs and stay homeless?

I hope you can get some help and get a place. I hate to hear of people being homeless.

Good luck to you!

Yes...I am living in my vehicle. With the exception of a few months when I rented a room I have done so for close to four years. In Canada...down to -40 C BRRR...BRRR...brrrrr

I am a US citizen and would not come down illegally, even if I could...it's against my morals to do so.

While I might eventually have lots of money I will still choose to live in a vehicle. PM me if you want more details of why or look up my threads - I explained why in another one.

I have always worked and paid my own way with one exception when I accepted $12.86 cents from Alberta to get much needed medicine when the Christian churches wouldn't not help me out. When I was in REAL need and felt like I was dying.

God willing, I will always work and take care of my own needs. I am NOT your typical "homeless" person.

My choice to be "homeless" and live in my truck is just that. A choice. Nothing to feel bad about. I feel likewise bad for those saddled with mortgages and living from pay check to paycheck .

I belong to Edmonton Gyms. There are about 10 of them spread out all over the city. I can use any of them I want for a measly $42 a month. Saunas, swimming pools, hot tubs, showers, bathrooms, exercise equipment and the like. 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM most days.

If I really gots to go and a gym is not nearby I tend to use library or university bathrooms (they are usually very nice - especially university bathrooms).

If worse comes to worse well...ahem...cough...cough...I can use something in my truck that I have set up for that purpose.

Every morning when I take a shower...I know it sounds gross but it's not...I take what I have done the night before and dump it down the toilet at the gym. I carry it in my backpack and dump it out. Just the...ahem...hmmm...liquid stuff I mean (I would say the word but there might be little kids on this forum ).

Now I really hope this thread doesn't come to light if I ever run for President LOL.

Carlos
